Fitbit logging steps even if I do not wear it.

I recently just got my FitBit and I have yet to wear it. I left it home with 0 steps and came back to find it logging 90 steps and it burned 1000 calories. On top of that, I tried to clear the steps via the dashboard and couldn't figure out how to do it without logging driving time. I would think that clearing steps is a basic function you would want in a step counting product and that such product should also not log steps if it isn't worn. Am I missing something?

Thank you for your time,

I'm struggling to understand where the steps came from but the calories I might be able to explain. As well as tracking calories you burn through activity, your fitbit also tracks your BMR calories. These are the calories you burn just keeping your body alive (even when asleep). They are calculated from your profile settings (age, weight etc) so you needn't be wearing your fitbit to get them. What you are seeing is the total BMR calories since midnight.

@springlady, would you by any chance have a second Fitbit tracker connected to your account?

If you do than sitting a Sync it will transfer the steps from the active tracker to the inactive Zip. At this point in time all trackers and the dashboard should have the same step count.
