Longtime Fitbit zip user thinking of switching to Apple Watch

I've been a Fitbit zip user for many years. I've had my Fitbit replaced a couple times because it has stopped working. I just bought a new pack of batteries to see if the battery was the problem but it was not. I called customer service and they said my warranty is invalid so now I'm thinking of switching to the Apple Watch. Has anyone tried one?

Hello @Megan_e_m,

I've seen a few instances where Zips may stop working simply because the battery is not making a good enough connection with the contacts.  I would try a couple of things:

  • Clean the contacts.  I'd use a cotton swab and some alcohol and allow it to dry.
  • Gently tug on the contacts to put more pressure on the battery, like this:

Then put a fresh battery in.  I was able to revive my friend's Zip this way.

As for using an Apple watch, there are a couple of reasons why I wouldn't get one:

  • Poor battery life - 18 hours... not even a full day.  If you don't charge it literally every day, it's dead.  Fell asleep in the couch?  Crashing at your friend's after a few drinks?  Flying on a red-eye?  dead.
  • Locked to the platform - While you may not consider moving to something other than an iPhone, if you ever do, it becomes a paperweight.

Just my 2¢.

I hope this helps.

Thanks! That's something to think about for sure. I'll try what you suggested tonight and then think about it some more.

I'm considering the Apple Watch because I already have an iPad and iPhone so I thought the watch might be good but I have heard about the battery life issues.
