I just synced my new zip because the old one was faulty. The step data reads '0'. Is this correct or should it have picked up the data from the old one. I synced the old one before changing.

Welcome to the Forums @wingsdesigns! Thanks for sharing your experience with your new Zip. The best in this case is to make sure that your new tracker is syncing correctly.
To do so, you need to manually sync your tracker. To do so, take a look at the help article How do Fitbit devices sync their data?
