Zip overcounting

Good morning!

I've read previous forums about reasons the zip may be overcounting, however I had not been in a car this morning and my zip wasn't left near any electronics overnight.

I went on a walk which should have been about 1500 steps, but when it synced it showed 8,000.

I looked at my dashboard to see if there was a time frame that showed the excessive steps to try and delete (like discussed in other forums), but it doesn't show it. The red, green and yellow bars that show the amount of steps at a specific time -- they only total about 1500 when added up. But the daily total at the bottom of the page still shows 8,000.

Any advice on how to fix it?

Hi there @smitchell519. Welcome to the Community! 🙂

I'd like to know where exactly you see this number. If you see it directly on your tracker and just for going for a walk it gives you 8,000 steps, that is a very high number and your tracker might be defective.

If you're looking at this number on the Activity tile, you will see three things here, your seven day average, your seven day total and your weekly goal progress wich is given in terms of a percentage. It looks something like this:

For more clarification, please let me know where exactly you're seeing your steps if it's not on this tile and I'll be glad to help! 🙂

Hello!

Thanks for the reply. The 8,000 was reflected on my tracker. The other spot it showed that number is copied below. I should only have had about 5600 total steps yesterday, but with the 8,000 added in it shows a total of 13,837.

Today my tracker seems to be more accurate.

Hmmm that's strange. Thanks for getting back @smitchell519!

If you notice this to happen again, I'd recommend restarting your tracker by removing the battery, waiting about 10 seconds and putting it back in. This will restart your tracker and from then, you should keep an eye on it to see how it goes.

Let me know if you need more help with this! 🙂

My zip managed to count 60,000 steps whilst on bedside table today. It was near my phone would that cause it to miscount? Took battery out and seems to be working morally now

Hey @kimharvie! I'm glad to see you in the Community, welcome! 🙂

I don't think that the fact of your phone being close to your tracker has to do with it registering more steps than it should... It's a good thing though that you restarted the tracker by taking the battery out.

I'd say, keep an eye on it and see how it works from here and if you notice anything weird, let us know! 🙂
