Active minutes for flex/ calorie burn reading

I just got the flex two days ago and I feel like the active minutes is not working. I've had two days of vigorous workouts and it logs nothing. Maybe I'm not sure how to use it? Also can you get an accurate calorie burn reading from a workout? Does this model basically just do steps?

Your Flex is primarily a pedometer so it works best when tracking activities that are step based. What type of exercise were you doing?

If, based on the analysis of the steps, it thinks that you were particularly active (not just mildly active) then it will award active minutes.

If you activity is not largely step based (cycling, rowing, weight etc) then you'll get more accurate data if you tell it what you were doing and you do that by manually logging the activity.

It takes a while to get up to speed with fitbit and what it can do. I suggest having a look at the online help at http://help.fitbit.com/?p=flex and, in particular, the manual:
