Hello, I have an Alta Fitbit HR, I cannot connect it via Bluetooth to my iphone X.  My iphone X is not picking up "other devices"

Hello @majara, thanks for joining the Fitbit Community, it's great to have you on board. Smiley Happy

Please note that the Fitbit trackers do not connect directly to the Bluetooth on your phone, but through the Fitbit app. You will be able to see your Alta HR in the Bluetooth settings once Notifications or All-day Sync had been enabled in your tracker.

With that said, I would like to ask you if you're having trouble syncing your Alta HR or setting it up. In either case, please follow these steps:

  • Make sure you have a strong WiFi signal
  • Make sure there are no other Bluetooth devices around that might interfere with the setup/sync process.
  • Restart your Alta HR
  • Restart your phone.
  • Turn off the Bluetooth on your phone for 15 seconds, then turn it back on and try to sync/set up your tracker.

I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and keep me posted in case you need anything else.

Margo, thanks for the suggestion.

Everything was working well, until I got an upgrade to the Iphone X (which I did not like and have returned).  After doing do and restoring back to the iphone 6, the Alta fitbit HR is not connecting.  The phone is not finding this as a device.  I will try to restart the Fitbit it self sometimes today and will be if this will resolve the problem.  If not, I'll take it back to bestbuy as they set it up for me.

Honestly I do think that the new IOS 11 with apple is causing all of this connectivity issues.  This is my view as I'm not technical.

I will let you know how it goes.

Hello @majara, I hope you're doing well, thanks for taking the time to reply. Smiley Happy

Thanks for detailing the issue for me. I would appreciate if you could reply to me after restarting your tracker and trying the troubleshooting steps described above. If your Alta HR is still not syncing correctly my best recommendation would be setting up your tracker as a new device. Don't worry, none of the information in your account will be deleted.

To set up your tracker as a new device:

  1. Go to the Bluetooth settings on your phone and check if your tracker is on the list of paired devices. If it is, tap on it and select Forget this Device.
  2. Open the Fitbit app and tap on the Account symbol at the top right corner of the screen, then tap on "Set up a New Device"
  3. Choose your tracker and follow the onscreen instructions to continue
  4. When the app asks you to replace your current tracker, please replace it and continue with the process.

I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and let me know the outcome!

Hello Margo.

Thank you so much for trying to help me.  I followed all the instructions below and set up the tracker as a new device "replacing the old one".  However here is what is happening.

- My iphone recognized the Alta HR, and connected

- It dropped off the Devices on the iphone, a few minutes later.

I opened the Fitbit apps

- it recognized and connected again.  As long as the Fitbit APP is opened on my iphone, the Fitbit stays as a connect device through Bluetooth.  Otherwise, it drops all the time.

Another issue is that my phone calls/txt messages are NOT being recognized on the Fitbit, so I am not alerted to my phone ringing (this is a very important feature for me, that's why I bought the FITBIT as I am hearing impaired and I know exactly when a customer is calling when I am away a distance from my phone.

Not sure what more I can do.   If during the course of the day, I am unable to solve this, I'll take the fitbit back to best buy as I've only had it since last May 2017.

Thanks once again and be in touch.

Hello Margo,  This is to let you know that all is working well now on my Fitbit.

Strange, but I did do a reset (as you outlined in your email).  Then I accessed the Fitbit app on my iphone, and went on the setup there.  It asked to sync my iphone to my fitbit, which I did and everything worked well.

I've been reading that ever since there was the IOS 11 updates, there has been all kinds of problems with Fitbit.  Read other community posts and it is all there.

Thank once again for your help.

Hello @majara, I appreciate your reply, thanks for letting me know you've tried the troubleshooting steps I've provided earlier. Smiley Happy

Please note that your tracker will appear on your phone's Bluetooth settings as connected when the app is open because the tracker has established a connection. In order for the tracker to appear on the list of paired devices in your phone, Notifications should be set up and the Bluetooth on your phone must be on.

In this case, if you have already set Notifications up and you're still not receiving them I would like to suggest you to go to your phone Settings > Notifications > Fitbit and make sure the following is enabled:

  • Allow Notifications
  • Show on Lock Screen
  • Show in History.

If this is already enabled, please reset Notifications from the Fitbit app following these steps:

- Go to the Bluetooth settings on your phone and tap on tracker. Then tap on Forget this Device.

- Force-close the Fitbit app by double tapping the home button on your phone and swiping up the app.

- Open the app again and tap on Account > Your Tracker > Notifications. You will receive the following Pop-up:

BTPairing.jpg

- Then, once you tap on Set Up, the app will begin setting up your tracker with the Bluetooth on your phone, which will prompt the next pop-up:

BTPairing2.jpg

- Tap Pair

- Once you get back to the tracker options, tap on Notifications an enable the ones you'd like to receive.

I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and keep me posted in case you need anything else. Smiley Wink

Hi Margo,

Thanks so much for the follow up.  All is working now.  Yes, I did reset everything.

FYI:   I went back to my iphone 6 as the iphone X is not compatible with a lot of non-apple products at the moment.  (I've had the help of apple care on this issue), made the decision to go back to iphone 6 and everything is working well.

In case there is someone out there, please inform them that the iphone X is not compatible with fitbit and also does not have a great compatibility with hearing aids.

Thank you.

I appreciate you have tried the troubleshooting steps I've provided above. If you still have your old phone with you I would like to suggest you to go to the Bluetooth settings on your phone and check if your tracker is on the list of paired devices. If it is, tap on it and select Forget this Device, then go to your new phone and try to set up your tracker as a new device.

Please keep in mind that your tracker is linked directly to your account, when you switch phones it's not necessary to remove the tracker from the account. Once you have downloaded the Fitbit app in the new phone, open the app and the tracker will still be in your account.

I hope this can be helpful, if there's anything else I can do for you, please feel free to reply.

I appreciate your participation in the Forums and for reporting this to us. I would also like to thank you for letting us know you've already tried the troubleshooting steps listed on this thread. Tell me, are you not able to receive text Notifications or the issue is affecting other Notifications as well? Please note that when iOS updated to iOS12, some settings changed in your phone, which is why I would like to suggest you to go to your phone Settings > Notifications > Fitbit / Messages and make sure the following is enabled:

Hi. Nothing else has changed when I updated. The texting has not worked since I changed to the iPhone X.
I can get the vibration when a call comes in but no text notification. Everything is turned on in notifications on the phone and the app. Still doesn’t work.

I appreciate you have come back and let me know you've already checked your phone Settings. At this moment, my best recommendation would be setting up your tracker as a new device to reset the connection between your phone and your tracker. Don't worry, none of the information already stored in your account will be deleted.

  5. When a pop-up appears asking you to Pair your tracker to your device, tap on Pair and continue.

After that, go to the Fitbit app and tap on Account > Your tracker > Notifications and enable all of them again.

I hope this can be helpful, if there's anything else we can do for you, please feel free to reply.

Hello,
When the iphone X came out and I had upgraded to it, I had the same issues, it would not connect with my fitbit. Many many trials and no success, I just returned the phone, got an 8 plus instead and everything just connected automatically.
