App stopped showing intensity colors and 15 min details after the latest iOS app update

Hi all.

I have noticed a change in the Fitbit iOS app since the most recent update.

In the graph that illustrates how many steps/miles you do each day I used to be able to see exactly how many miles/steps were done every 15 mins in a day by touching each bar in the graph. This feature for some reason has now disappeared which is a pain as I cannot tell exactly how many steps/miles were walked before and after a walk.  To some this many not be much of an issue but when you like to log the exact distance of your walk each day then this is a problem. I guess I could just wear the wristband when I start a walk but would much rather have the feature back. Just wonder if anyone else out there sees this as a problem or is it just me?

Yes! Totally agree with you. I have an older apple phone (6s). I DID NOT do the apple update, as I didn’t think it was anything special for my phone. I did however do the Fitbit update and since then that’s been the problem. And still no update for us still waiting.

Purchase of a product should have the same support no matter what type of computer or phone one has. For Google who now owns Fitbit to have all the bells & whistles for this with Google phones and not for Apple or other Android devices is wrong. It’s unconscionable and downright nasty customer service.

I’ll take my money and business elsewhere. In addition they will receive negative reviews for their products. Companies that behave in this manner don’t deserve my loyalty.

So Fitbit put out another “update” today. Didn’t fix a darn thing, still the same.

It is safe to say I will not recommend your product to anyone that was considering getting one. I myself will be looking into a new device. This is very disappointing, as I have loved Fitbit for the past 5 yrs now. Customer service has done nothing and there are clearly LOTS of complaints about this.

The finger on this points to FitBit. If this would have been an Apple issue FitBit would be crowing.  They have not given an inkling as to why they did this or any corrective measures they are implementing or considering to correct this.

All they’ve needed to do since this occurred was to rollback the version update to pre-3.44, as clearly it is something within that version’s code that is causing this issue across all iDevices.

To be fair the CSRs have done all they really can, this issue falls on the developers really.

I can’t see this clearly. Can you post the link?

If only we could roll it back to previous version ourselves

What link?

Fair enough. Apologies 🙂  I suppose I was being a little harsh on CS. I do hope they relay app this info to the developers in some way though.

I wouldn’t apologize, we’re going on almost a month with this issue. Yesterday when my brother showed me his android it screwed up my profile and made me male instead of female.  I had to do some major adjustments for my calories after that and I had to use the dashboard, which at least it’s available to get the missing adjustments before the day was over.  If they’re never gonna fix the app then they really need to work on the dashboard to make it more like what the app was.

@la6793  I completely agree but it’s hard for me to tell where the blame truly lies here. Google is linked to basically every major Android device, but not all Androids. I think it might be worth a shot to see how the app behaves when downloaded from an entirely different source, neither Google’s Play Store nor Apple’s App Store. I used to have an altstore installed on my iPhone, I might fiddle with it if I can get my brain to turn back on.

As @cfrankt  mentioned, it’s possible that this could be Apple’s push to make the Apple watch more desirable.
I will say I am unsure how they could get away with forcing other companies to make their own apps less functional. However I’ve hated and been wary of the way Apple is so ludicrously proprietary every since the days of the iPod and I know Apple does have a lot of control of what apps are on the store and what you can do with your apps and iPhone (ei how limited the phone’s functions can truly be when you think about it). Therefore I can’t fully trust that this is NOT Apple’s issue.

It’s messed up either way though, and this being a Google issue would basically point to Google doing the same bs tactics that Apple does.
Purchasing a product shouldn’t force consumers to marry into a company. Bottom line.
It’s our right to have the choice how and where we spend our hard-earned money on what’s best for us as individuals, not what’s best for a billion-dollar company.

When I buy a brand of shampoo, the bottles always say it WORKS BEST with the same brand of conditioner. But I still have a choice. I’m not then forced to buy that same brand in hair brushes, same brand in hair dryers, same brand in cords and outlets to power that hair dryer, etc.

tldr: this is manipulative and it sucks

My sleep data is sometimes out by 3 or 4 hours (I guess I need to move around more when I watch tv or read!) so I too use the step count (and floors climbed) to figure out when I went to bed. It also allows me to see if I got up in the night cos I couldn’t sleep and how long I was up for. Impossible to do that if I can’t see the 15min increments.

I find the dashboard kind of hard to use (it’s as if, to find what you’re looking for, you have to click every link on there. Infuriating.) but I just found this. If you try to use the tile that has steps, floors, miles etc on it, you only get the choice between floors, steps, calories. But if you use the top part of the dashboard, there’s this little menu on the right hand side... If you click the pin drop icon (miles) it brings up a graph with intensity/15min intervals on it. Don’t know if that helps you (or if you already saw it). I guess we need to use the dashboard for in-depth analysis now, because the app doesn’t offer it. 😕

I can’t figure out how you changed the date.  I can go back but that info is not populating the graph. Do you have an apple phone?

This is what I have found, any help appreciated.
It’s really only good for the current day and you’re correct, hard to maneuver.

It’s also the only one with miles.

The other has calories and steps where you can select date (I think it’s called activities).  The increments are 5 minutes!! Again no miles!

Yay I figured it out. You have to move that screen up underneath the date change thing and then it moves the graphs on the screen, so cool.  It’s not great but most of the time I don’t need like a whole lot of data at one time so if it’s there and I can just look at it real quick then it’s not bad.

it would be better if you could export it and if it didn’t say the 7 day average but enter the actual data from the day.  This threw me off a bit.120AA1A5-C913-430A-B21B-717432264541.jpeg

  • I only have had my Fitbit since 2019 and the app existed.  I keep seeing things that make me think the dashboard was the predecessor to the app.  Anyone go way back?  Did you only have dashboard

I’ve had mine ( three ) since 2015 and we had to sync it before midnight with the computer or something archaic like that. Then they phased out the computer dashboard and now it’s back.

Thanks for info!  Kind of does seem like backwards thinking.  Most companies are trying to get you to use apps instead of their online website services, like amazon, utility companies, even google.  Fitbit is saying please use our website service, dashboard, don’t use our app anymore.

It makes sense with your iPad Pro because you have the app already on that device and it didn’t get the 727 update  for Fitbit app.  I kept trying older devices and because the app wasn’t on them I added it, but the app was already updated so of course it didn’t work on the old devices.

I only had the app on my phone because when I had it on more than one device it wouldn’t sync very easily, So I only had it on the phone.
