I forgot to start my exercise on the Fitbit ios app tonight when I was walking. My Blaze recognized I was walking and started the exercise log - but wait, no GPS! Fumbling through the settings I noticed a statement that the auto-exercise does not use GPS. Why not? I understand some may view it as a privacy issue, but for that, I would prefer a setting for whether the iPhone's GPS should be used or not. Maybe I'm missing something. Is there a way to get the auto-exercise recognition function to use GPS? It already records other readings such as heart rate and steps, but I feel it is incomplete without the path and distance information.

Hello @VT78ChE, I hope you're having a great day, it's nice to see you on board.
In order for the tracker to record a GPS track, it needs to connect to the GPS manually on your phone before the activity starts. Currently, it's not possible for the tracker to connect to the GPS on your phone automatically. I understand how this might be important for you and many people, which is why I went ahead and found a suggested idea by @thiagodolabella to implement this feature in a future update. Please feel free to add your vote and comment to this idea, this is truly the best way to make your voice heard.
I hope this can be helpful, if there's anything else I can do for you, please keep me posted.
