I would like to be able to sort friends by average steps -so I can curate competitive challenges. 
grouping ppl with 9k step average against 17k step averages is demotivating

Hello @ToddBurdett 

Have you tried creating your challenges for your friends using the community tab on the Fitbit App? If you tap community at the bottom then tap friends at the top of the screen all your friends average weekly steps are listed for you from the highest stepper to the bottom stepper. This method allows you to sort your friends with similar steppers for challenges. I used this list to create challenges in the same manner as you are trying to achieve.
