Ever since the most recent updates I’m noticing an issue with background activity for the app. It doesn’t appear to be causing excessive battery drain, but it can disrupt optimized charging and cause it to charge to 100% instead of pausing at 80% because the phone is essentially in use.
What is happening is the app will begin around 11:30PM-12AM every night running in the background for 40m-1hr every hour until the app is opened and resynced, or closed and hard restarted, at which point it returns to normal until the next evening. It does not matter whether or not background app refresh is on or off, the background activity occurs regardless of the selection in my testing. This would be expected behavior if I was actively tracking an exercise but this happens while asleep, every single evening if I don’t remember to sync/restart the app after midnight. It’s very annoying and will persist into the next day until refreshed. I’m currently at 10.5hrs background use since last night and have not done any tracked workouts that would cause the background activity.
Currently on iOS 17.1.1 and the most up to date version of the Fitbit app as of 11/17.
