Blaze syncs with phone but won’t connect in the exercise modes.

Blaze syncs with iPhone6 but won’t connect in the exercise modes, even when shown as synced on app. 3rd occurrence of this fault in as many weeks, previously removing Blaze on app, deleting app and reinstalling and reconnecting rectified it but even that doesn’t work now!

Any suggestions 🙁

Hello @Dhywb, I hope you're doing well, it's nice to see you around. Smiley Happy

I'm not quite sure about the issue you're experiencing, are you trying to perform a connected GPS activity? Are the exercises recorded from your Blaze not showing up in the app?

  1. If you're having trouble with connected GPS and if you haven't already done so, please check the following three GPS-related settings on your iOS device:
    • Make sure your device can track your activity when you're out of wi-fi range. To do so, tap Settings > Cellular and make sure Cellular Data is on.
    • Make sure the app can track GPS when your device is locked. To do so, tap Settings > General > Background App Refresh and make sure it's on.
    • Make sure your device is able to identify your location. To do so, tap Settings > Privacy > Location Services and make sure it's on.
  2. When starting a GPS activity, turn off WiFi by going to Settings > WiFi as if you only turn it off from the Control Center it will only disconnect you from the current WiFi signal and will not turn off WiFi itself, this will prevent GPS from working correctly as your phone will be looking for a WiFi signal to connect the entire time.

Now, in case you're not able to see activities recorded from your Blaze that have been recently synced, please go to the activities section on your online Dashboard and check if the activities are showing here. If they are, try the following in the app:

  • Force-close the app by double tapping the home button on your phone, then swipe up the app.
  • Log out, restart your phone and log back in.

I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and keep me posted in case you need anything else. Smiley Wink

Hi, over last 5 days, i’ve Tried to use connected GPS each day. I’ve followed all instructions and advice, switching off Wi-fi etc on phone. The phone has had a good gps fix but the Blaze has only worked to connect for gps on one occasion to map the exercise. The ‘Check Fitbit’ response is all I get except for the one occasion it did work. I’ve tried removing & reconnecting Blaze, Bluetooth on/off  & re-installing the Fitbit App. What else is there to try as it now doesn’t do the main thing I bought it for.

Hello @Dhywb, I hope you're doing well, thanks for taking the time to reply. Smiley Happy

I appreciate you have tried the troubleshooting steps provided earlier, as your Blaze is still not connecting with the GPS on your phone I would like to suggest you to check the following:

  • Check that your tracker is connected (paired) to your phone. To confirm, go into your phone's Bluetooth settings and make sure you see Blaze on the list of devices.
  • You selected an exercise type from the Exercise menu that has a gear icon in the bottom left corner. The gear icon represents connected GPS.
  • GPS is turned on for the exercise type. Tap the gear icon and make sure the Use Phone GPS setting is on.
  • Your phone is within about 20 feet of your tracker.
  • Your phone can identify your location and can track your location when you're not using Wi-Fi. For more information on which phone settings you may need to adjust, see How do I use multisport or exercise mode on my tracker?
  • The Fitbit app is open on your phone or running in the background. Do not force quit the Fitbit app.

I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and let me know the outcome.

Hi, the latest Blaze firmware update seems to have cured the problem. Since updating, I’ve tested it with and without Wi-fi on Phone on and it works fine both ways.😀

I've had this same problem with Blaze not connecting to GPS; although, mine is intermittent.  It syncs just fine.  I went through the suggested steps and have not seen any resolution.  What Blaze firmware update resolved your issue?  Mine is at 7.8.401.3.  The iOS app does not mention anything about there being a firmware update.

I have been having constant trouble with the iOS app logging me out.  Can't say that this is the problem each time, but have noted the GPS connection problem occurring prior to finding the app has lost my authenticated state, forcing me to log in again.

I am having the exact same problem. When I am in exercise mode I access the bike exercise and press connect. I then get the same response when connecting to phone. A little red phone and the words check fit bit app. Every time this happens.  I have been going through all the above recommendations with zero success. What firmware should I have on the phone? That fixed the previous persons problem. Also how do I update the firmware?

Hello @smwalter, have a warm welcome to the Fitbit Community, it's great to have you on board. It's nice to see you too @JamiePearsonSmiley Happy

Please note that if you have a pending update for your Fitbit Blaze you will be able to see a pink arrow next to your tracker's name when you tap on Account. If you do not see the pink arrow is because you're running on the latest firmware.

At this moment I would like to suggest you to go to your phone Settings > Fitbit and check that Background App Data is enabled, then when starting a GPS exercise, turn off WiFi on your phone through the phone's Settings (not through Control Center), this will prevent your phone form trying to pick up a WiFi signal which usually interferes when recording a GPS path.

I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and keep me posted in case you need anything else.

I have the same problem on  samsung Edge7.Everything synchs, but fitbit 'cant find phone' in bike or run exercise. The run or ride is recorded but no speed, distance or map info. GPS signal is good, Wi-Fi is off. Have reset tracker etc., still no GPS data , still 'cant find phone' - which it obviously can! Any ideas left? Ive tried all you previous hints - thanks, by the way.
