Calorie Counter in app

Can anyone explain how the app displays the calories? It seems like a bunch of random numbers. Mine says 125 cals in -- 670 cals out. 992 cals left for the day. I have no idea what this means. I am used to seeing a basal metabolic rate that tells you how many calories your body will burn in a day, how many calories is your target goal to loose weight and how many calories you have eaten throughout the day. Why is this not the format being used? I find this version of tracking calories very confusing and wish there was a more basic format to follow. The app tells me don't eat over 992 calories in order to loose weight but if I go over a day, it just says FAIL you went over. There is no comparison to my actual BMR to see if I am still under calories or if I am so far over that I am now gaining weight. Fitbit, please address this!

@SunsetRunner -

The dashboard value takes into consideration that you will still burn more calories before midnight rolls around, even without exercise - it is called your BMR or Basic Metabolic Rate. The bar chart on the food page apparently does not. I have performed calculations to validate the "Cals Left" figure on the dashboard. That is the number I trust.

To save me a large amount of typing and loading images, may I point you to a topic here on this board where I discussed a lot of what you are asking about?

If you would like to see were I detail out the numbers, check this topic, it is post 5:

If that doesn't do it for you, post back using @MrMarv in the post like I did with your username above so I get a notification of your post.
