Hello @Tracey270, thanks for joining the Fitbit Community, it's great to have you on board.
At this moment it's only possible to save custom foods not entire recipes. which you can enter by tapping on the Food tile, then on the plus sign on the top right corner. After that, tap on CUSTOM and then on + Add New Custom Food. In here you'll be able to assign a name to your food, the portion and the calories per portion.
I understand that having an entire recipe will be very helpful for many members of the Community, which is why I would like to suggest you to submit your insight as a suggested idea, where members of the Community can vote for it and comment about it. This is the best way to make your voice heard.
I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and keep me posted in case you need anything else.

@Tracey270 I am more of a home chef eater and less of a scan barcode eater -- the app definitely favors the scan barcode eater. But with a little work, you can get your home meals into your food database now, without waiting for a feature suggestion or an update .
First, it is much easier to do this on the fitbit.com web dashboard. You get to type with all your fingers, not just two thumbs! You will also need to use a site that can take your whole recipe, divide it into servings, and give you calorie and nutrition data. I do not tie my fitbit to myfitnesspal, but I do use their site to re-create my recipes. The food database is extensive, using a variety of "generic" and branded foods.
Yes, it is a project best attempted in small increments. But after an item is added to your database on the fitbit.com website, you will be able to log it from the app.
