Can I tell my iPad to not try and pair with my Inspire 3 because it is paired with my iPhone?

Hi,

Is it possible to tell my iPad to not try and pair with my Inspire 3 because it is paired with my iPhone?

I have an Inspire 3 paired with my iPhone and it works fine.

I also have the app on my iPad for the bigger screen but it often complains about lost pairing or "Can't sync without Bluetooth". It doesn't realise I am syncing via the iPhone. Initially I paired it on the iPad when it first complained because I assumed you could pair with both, but that disconnected the iPhone so I paired it again on that.

The iPad app is successfully reading the data from the iPhone syncs, but I can't find any way of dismissing the Bluetooth warnings/errors, or telling it that I have the iPhone as master. It is like the app assumes people only have one device and I must connect to the one I am using now.

Thanks

I did find this similar post, but it not quite the same question. https://community.fitbit.com/t5/iOS-App/Fitbit-app-on-iPhone-and-ipad/m-p/5494333

HI @Hugh1234 - if you remove the Bluetooth entry from the iPad and logout of the Fitbit App and swipe it off it will only connect with your iPhone. Instead then you can use the web dashboard on the iPad.

@Hugh1234   I've had the Fitbit app on my iPad for as long as I've owned one.  I don't get any pop-ups like you describe.  These are my settings on my iPad:

  • Notifications for my Sense 2 are off in my Fitbit app.  Tap on your device/battery percent icon in the upper left > tap on your Inspire 3 > tap on Notifications and toggle them off
  • Remove your Inspire 3 from the Bluetooth list on your iPad

The suggestion to use the web dashboard certainly doesn't help you.

Thanks.

1. Are you syncing on your iPad or on a phone, or both?

2. If you are syncing on just your phone, does your Sense 2 show as "Looking" on your iPad?

3. Do you have an Android phone, or iPhone? I'm wondering if some of my issues might be from Apple syncing Bluetooth settings and so on between my iPhone and iPad.

I did "Forget this device" in the iPad Bluetooth settings, removed and reinstalled the app, and I am now getting a "Can't sync without internet access. [Open settings]" message every time I open the app, but at least I have not had any pairing warnings (yet!).

Note the "Open settings" link goes to, Settings -> Fitbit -> ALLOW FITBIT TO ACCESS where you can allow/disallow the app Bluetooth access.

If I deny the Fitbit app Bluetooth access then the device does not show as "looking" on the iPad, but I still get the "Can't sync without internet" message every time I launch the app. If I switch Bluetooth access back on the device goes back to "Looking". I don't seem to have an option "Please don't try and sync the device on this iPad". I was hoping denying the iPad app Bluetooth access would stop it trying to sync the Inspire 3, but it seems like the app is determined to have a go.

Thanks. That's an option but the web site does not display a lot of health data that is available in the app so I would prefer to use the app if I can.

  1. I sync on my iPhone.  My notifications are 'ON' on my iPhone.  There is a tight Bluetooth bond between a Fitbit and an iPhone when your get call, text, calendar notifications.
  2. Yes, the iPad always says that it's 'looking for' my Fitbit.  It will do that.
  3. I am a Mac person and don't have an Android phone.

Okay thanks. I'm hoping that forgetting the device will suppress the pairing problem messages I was getting. I guess I will continue to get the "Can't sync without internet" messages from time to time. I've sent feedback via the iPad app. Maybe they will tweak that one day. But it does seem like they have designed the app on the assumption that you always want to sync on a device.
