Can't set up gifted Fitbit Alta

A friend of mine gave me her Alta. I can’t get it to sync to my iPhone. It won’t find the device. I do have Bluetooth on and the Fitbit is fully charged. Thanks!

I have the iPhone 7 and it’s all up to date on the updates. Would it have anything to do with my friend having it synced to her Fitbit app?
