Challenges in different time zones not recording steps

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Has there been any update to this issue? I have restarted the app, updated, etc, but challenges I've joined in different time zones don't record all my steps, even after the time for the challenge has passed and everything has synced. Will I just never be able to join a challenge in another time zone? (I have the flex)

Same here! I've got the screen shots. It's off by 7000+ steps. Ive been competing against this friend for months, and all of a sudden this week I see the difference in the challenge she created this week versus another that someone else created. I tried taking my Fitbit off at night because I knew that would tel me for sure if the sync would catch up, but this morning it's still the same thing. Fitbit, your system is glitchy and it needs to be fixed. It wasn't an issue before and now it is.

Same issue. For Mon-Thurs my steps are off by 12,500. I made a post with screen shots in the Challenge section. There's an issue with their servers & they don't know when they will fix it 😤

Eastern to Central time Zone is a difference of 1 hour, NOT 23. But my dad's app keeps telling him that if he joins my challenge that there is a 23 hour time difference. This is something YOU need to fix.

The 23-hour difference warning is the issue.

There's a problem with the software's time difference calculations but none of the Fitbit staff will recognize it as a coding error. This isn't a new feature request, it's a bug that needs to be fixed.

I know this won't get passed along to the developers but I'll put it here anyway.

Example:

Challenge initiator in EST time = 8:00 a.m.

Challenge acceptors time is CST 7:00 a.m.

8-7 = 1 the way it should work with a one hour time difference

What's happening is 7-8 = -1 adjusted to a 24-hour clock returns a 23 from the time difference calculation.

It's a simple math fix inside their challenge routines. The truly sad thing is that it is a relatively small thing to fix and test but they're stuck in "it's a user error" mode.

Thank you for posting this! I have a Blaze doing the same thing, driving me nuts.  Did you ever get this resolved?

I have just checked all my challenges and it is only the ones in differing time zones.  FitBit's repeated broken record response is insulting! I've had my friends check their trackers v. leaderboard who are in my challenges and it appears we are not alone guys.  Thank God, I found your posts, I thought that I may well be sleep walking 😜

I have a Flex 2 and my fiance has a Blaze. Time zone difference is 6 hours... The time zone calculation is NOT WORKING AS FITBIT SAYS, If it was working as they say, it wouldn't be terrible! We could work with that! (We COULD figure it out!) It would be even nicer if it waited for my time zone to start so we were both on 12 to 12... But I know that's asking for too much because even the "go by the initiator time zone" is NOT working. We're both connected, we both have Fitbits tracking our steps and both are syncing.. the steps are majorly OFF! PLEASE FIX!!!! We got these Fitbits to encourage and push each other despite our long distance... I'm SO disappointed !!! 😩

Hi— looks like these questions ended but the issue wasn’t resolved. I’ve been having this problem with my new Charge 2. Dashboard is 2000k steps over the workweek challenge and it won’t sync no matter what I do. What’s the deal FitBit?

I'm having this issue now! The challenge is shorting me about 12K steps

Same issue here. I live in CST and participate in challenges in EST. App tells me that that is a 23 hour time difference. Both my phone time zone and fitbit.com dashboard reflect I am in CST. Only about 10 percent of my steps reflect in weekly challenges. And no, I don't manually input steps, use gps, or third party apps. I have a Flex. I don't remember this being an issue when I bought it a couple of years ago!

I have the same issues and have a Charge 4.

So I don't think its the type of fitbit we are using. FITBIT needs to fix this glitch, because as you say - we aren't out walking around at midnight. All my steps are during daylight hours. I'm mountain time and the challenge is eastern time.

Hopefully there is a way to fix this. Motivation to move goes down when a 1/3rd or more of my steps don't transfer from my main screen to my challenge.

You miss the point. Obviously the steps taken outside the time zone will not record. I’m in two challenges RIGHT now, one in PST and one in CST. 99 percent of my steps are within BOTH time zones, however, my local PST challenge has 33,457 steps and my CST has 3,247 steps. I’m frustrated and tired of reading this same explanation and excuse. Please listen to what customers are saying!

They just can’t seem to fix this. It’s now 2022 and it’s worse now.

It’s now 2022 and still not resolved. Like you, I’m SICK of the same explanation that shows that are not listening to what we are telling them!

Your explanations are NOT the issue! You have a bug and it’s so frustrating.
