Charge HR, iPhone 5S and heart rate tracking

Hello,

I am a current fitbit Flex user, considering moving to the Charge HR, primarily for the heart rate tracking. I was looking at HR's compatibility across Apple devices and it seems that there is a difference in what is compatible - older devices  - not so heart rate friendly?

Can someone help me out with this? If I can't see the heart rate on the app and online, then maybe I am better off just using the Flex...

Thank you.

Hi @RM2014 and welcome!

If your current iOS device is compatible with syncing with your Flex, you will be ok with the Charge HR syncing your fitness and heart rate data too.

Also, if you have any questions about device compatibility, you can find what mobile devices are compatible with Fitbit here.

Let me know if you have any additional questions!

Hi Derrick,

Thank you for your reply. My existing phone app with Flex syncs just fine. I am using the free version of the fitbit website. With that, I can see: steps, distance, duration, and calories. If I am understanding you correctly, if I were to then use the Charge HR, I would also see levels and heart rate in addition the ones I have mentioned. Is this true with the free version of the fitbit website or would I need to buy a subscription to see the additional tracked information?  I suspect that I would be able to see my heart rate on the Charge HR as I exercise, but I am wondering if I will be able to see some historical information on the Ios app and also on the free website associated with my fitbit account.

Thank you. 🙂

I'm assuming that you tried our "Free Trial" of the Fitbit Premium, didn't you? Fitbit Premium is an extra service offered for those who are interested in a deeper analysis of food logs, activities, and sleep records. It includes:

  • Fitbit Trainer, which provides a Fitness Plan that helps you increase or maintain weight and activity goals.
  • Benchmarking to see how you compare to every other user in the Fitbit database.
  • The ability to download your body, food, activity, and sleep data as an Excel file.

You can read more about all Fitbit Premium features on our comparison page.

Hope this helps!

Hi,

I suppose that it is just sematics but when I created the fitbit "free trial " account, I did that at the same time that I bought the fitbit Flex.  I wouldn't use the account without the flex.  I didn't know that there was a "fee-based" account that I could sign up for. I was in a different place wiht my personal goals as well and didn't need all the extras.  But I wouldn't have automaticially signed up for the fee-based account without giving the flex a whirl with the free account.  Almost two years later and I am now ready to challenge myself more. But I have found phone apps (sleep, heart rate) and other tracking programs to track much of what I need (food) and may sign up for a subscription with FitStar - since it is with extra workouts that I wish to explore. It would be great to have it in all one place but I'm not ready to commit yet.

I may sign up for premium fitbit over time, but not yet.

Thank you for your feedback. 🙂
