Connected GPS not working correctly

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Hi - I have a charge 2, and an iPhone.  I have noticed recently that the routes tracked for my walks / runs are wildly inaccurate - today, it looks as though I ran across a lake!!  Apple tell me there is nothing wrong with my phone.  The friend I ran with has the route showing correctly, and is also using a charge 2 and an iPhone.  Any idea why my app is not tracking properly or what I can do to fix it?  Thanks!

Hi @ELK2309, welcome to the Community Forums! Sorry for the delayed reply.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. There are a few reasons why GPS might not connect or be inaccurate. Review the information below, then check the requirements and troubleshooting steps.

  1. Environmental factors, including tall buildings, dense forest, steep hills, and even thick cloud cover, can interfere with your device’s or phone’s ability to connect to GPS satellites. If the signal is blocked—either because you're underground or due to another reason—GPS won't work.
  2. Confirm that GPS is enabled on your device. For more information, see How do I turn on GPS for an exercise on my Fitbit device?
  3. For connected GPS, turn off Wi-Fi on your phone so that your phone doesn’t try to connect to available networks along your route.
  4. For connected GPS, verify the following requirements; then try the troubleshooting steps if necessary.

Requirements to properly use the connected-GPS feature of your Charge 2 with your iPhone:

  1. Bluetooth on your phone is turned on, and your device is connected under your phone’s Bluetooth settings.
  2. Your phone is within 30 feet of your device.
  3. Your device can sync with your phone. For more information, see How do Fitbit devices sync their data?
  4. Your phone can identify your location and can track your location. For more information, see How do I allow the Fitbit app to use my phone's GPS sensors?

After the above requirements are verified, please try the following troubleshooting steps and let me know how it goes.

  1. Force quit, and reopen the Fitbit app to refresh the connection with your device. If GPS won’t connect, try step 2.
  2. On your phone, go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth off and back on. If GPS still won’t connect, try step 3.
  3. Restart your phone.

Keep me posted and let me know if you have any additional questions.
