Error migrating Fitbit account to Google account

Config: iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 15.3.2, Fitbit for iOS 4.39.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open Fitbit app
  2. Log in (username, password, security code)
  3. On screen "It takes a just a few minutes to move to a Google account," tap "Get Started"
  4. Beside "Step 1 Choose your Google Account," tap "Next"
  5. Google account appears. Tap "Continue as Paul"
  6. Error appears: "This email is used with a different Fitbit account. Your chosen Google Account uses an email address that's already registered with a different Fitbit account. Choose a different Google Account to continue, or sign out of Fitbit and sign in using an email that matches you chosen Google account."

There is no Fitbit account with my Gmail address — I tried "forgot password" with my Gmail account and no email arrived.

What do I need to do complete the migration?

I have the same problem. And seems to not get any help from support about this.

Workaround:

  1. Go to https://accounts.fitbit.com/login
  2. Click Forgot Password
  3. Enter your Google account email address and click Send Instructions
  4. Reset your password
  5. Log in with the Google account
  6. In settings / profile, change your email address to something else
  7. Click the link in the email to confirm the change

Your Google account is no longer associated with a Fitbit account, and you can complete the migration.
