Fitbit Zip and the app

I have an old Fitbit zip which I really want to use.  I was surprised when I downloaded the app that a zip was still one of the Fitbit options on the app (I had read it had been discontinued). so I got all excited but now I'm just getting a syncing error message.  Is it still possible to use the IOS app with a Zip? If not why does the app still show it as an option? Thanks
