Fitbit app syncs data without having a device paired

This is very odd. I’m the owner of one of the now-famous bricked Charge 5s; it died about three weeks ago. Since then I’d been using my backup Inspire 2, which is rudimentary compared to the Charge 5 (no onboard GPS; display can’t be read outside…etc.) Tired of waiting for a Charge 5 fix, I switched to Garmin (which I actually love!) and have been using it since last Friday. I deleted my Inspire from the Fitbit app (iOS, on my iPad) and there is no device connected to that app anymore.

Yet….somehow the Fitbit app is picking up data from my Garmin. How is this possible? It only picks up activities/distance/exercises….not steps, HR, sleep, etc.

I don’t get this at all. What’s going on, and how can I stop it? I don’t want to delete the Fitbit app, as I have nine years of stats on it, and I do refer to that history quite a bit.

Anyone?

Hi there, @stellafred.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. While your Charge 5 and Inspire 2 are no longer paired, do you recall having connected your Fitbit account with a third-party app? Let me share that some non-Fitbit apps can be connected to Fitbit in order to transfer certain data between both platforms. More information can be found in this help article.

Assuming that's your case, it'd explain why your workout details are being uploaded on the Fitbit app. To double check this, please follow these steps:

  1. Open the Fitbit app and tap your profile picture.
  2. Scroll down and tap Connected Apps.
  3. Tap Manage Connected Apps.
  4. Log in to your Fitbit account when prompted.
  5. On the Applications section, Revoke Access to any app that you no longer want connected to the Fitbit app.

Thank you. I no longer have a profile picture on my app, as I recently
installed the updated app….and I also migrated my account to Google when I
received the request to do so. I only have my initial on the app, where my
picture used to be, and tapping that does not bring up anything helpful in
this regard. However, I do have some third-party apps connected. I will try
to remember what they are and will disconnect; I’ll see if that helps.
Thanks.

Hi there, @stellafred.

You're welcome, and thanks for getting back with these details. Because you completed the migration to Google, I'd recommend trying the same process on your online dashboard by doing the following steps:

  1. Go to fitbit.com dashboard and log in to your account.
  2. Click on the gear icon at the upper right corner.
  3. From the drop-down menu, click Settings.
  4. On the left side menu, select Applications.
  5. Look for the apps that you want to disconnect from Fitbit and click Revoke Access.

Thank you! I followed that procedure and found several apps I had tied it
to, so I deleted them and will see how it works.

Now, I have a request: I am I’m the Beta testing program, and since I no
longer have a working device I need to know how to take myself out of it.
Please let me know how to do that.

Hi there, @stellafred.

You're very welcome. Thanks for following those steps and please keep an eye on your Fitbit app to see if your activities still get recorded.

In regards to your other question, I'd recommend logging in to your field testing account at beta.fitbit.com, click the project you are participating in and look for the contact form for that project in order to get in touch with that team. I'm sure they'll help you with your request.
