How to lock portrait mode in the Fitbit app?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

The app dashboard on iPad randomly switches to landscape mode. I don’t want dash in landscape. I want to be able to glance at the dash as I always have. Scrolling landscape is cumbersome. Trying to remain active while fixing is taking away from the convenience of the app over website.

I can correct by turning off rotation lock, turning iPad then turning rotation lock back on for the Fitbit app to be in portrait. Then I need to get out of the app, returning to home screen, turn rotation lock off (because now the iPad thinks I want everything in portrait), rotate the iPad again to put it back in landscape for normal use and locking again. That’s fine until it isn’t anymore and the Fitbit app has flipped itself back to landscape.

How do I lock the app on portrait? This is beyond annoying having this occur randomly, some days once or twice, other days every time I go into app.

I typed a detailed complaint prior to whining, and then decided to reswipe the iPad lock feature on the iPad Pro, IOS12.2, and, like all good tech support tries, turn it on and off.  Voila! No complaint.

I beg your pardon???? Did you just imply my post was “whining?”

My issue is the app is no longer working as it had prior to what I’ve determined was the Easter weekend. If you re-read my issue you will see I reset my iPad AT LEAST once daily. (I did not mention my iPad is switched off daily and wiped of cookies weekly.) Had “Voila!” worked I wouldn’t have a “complaint” either.

Oh, Murphyman,

My comment re whining are completely NOT directed at you.  I was so relieved after screwing around with that terribly annoying issue on the app, that I was thinking ONLY of myself when I used the word whining - for I had written a big long whine.  Now, I am re-posting the whine because indeed, the next time I went to use this app, I am back with the same problem.  And I have no interest in constantly resetting my iPad.  Thus you are completely accurate. And I am whining and complaining.

So, as a new user, I am totally bummed at the quality of their responses to the ongoing posts about this - not only at this, but at the fact that the heart rate display on this thing is so small I will never be able to see it in the pool, on my bike, or on the trail.  So much for coming into the 21st century for me.  Or even bothering to post realizing it might sound directed at others.

Thank you for clearing that up iamconsuming.

Welcome to the world of Fitbit. It’s a frustrating way of life. I didn’t realize this has been a problem since (from what I’ve found) as far back as 2014, maybe before.

I was extremely motivated and willing to go all out until my Fitbit killed my enthusiasm. I actually quit using it for a while. Picking it back up again I have lowered expectations knowing if you expect it to perform as well as advertised you’re in for heartbreak.

I’m assuming this is the last we’ll hear about this until someone else pipes in. Unfortunately I’m wearing out my leather iPad cover by having to set and re-set it in order to use the app. Didn’t have a problem until I received notice an update had been done.

It seems my portrait has finally been locked on. I wouldn’t call any reply here to be a “solution.” Don’t know if Fitbit did something or if the most recent Apple update took care of it, but I’ve been surprised to find it in portrait every time I’ve gone on it for two days, a vast improvement over how it had devolved to landscape no matter how many times I manually changed it.

If it was something Fitbit did, thank you.

So glad this issue is currently being worked on, because the flipping between portrait and landscape orientation on my iPad is driving me nuts.  Is this really so very hard to fix?

Has there been an update, i.e. resolution of the problem. I am using an iPad with the latest iteration of the Fitbit app and turned on screen lock. The fitbit app opens up in landscape mode (good) but when I enter data it changes to portrait mode (not good).  I close out of the app, reopen it, which it does in landscape mode, and so on and so forth (Groundhog day-ish).

Following up on my earlier post, when I open the app, I have my iPad in a landscape position on my desk and the app will open in landscape mode. However, whenever I click on anything within the app, the mode switches to portrait. I have used screen lock both before and during use of the app and this does not lock the app in landscape mode (which I prefer because of my iPad's cover and how I rest the iPad on my desk (i.e. in landscape-wise). I am running the most recent version of the app and the iPad iOS. Any suggestions?

Regards,

Lex
