How to manually add exercise or steps?

How do you add in steps or exercise not tracked in the updated app? I can only see the stats in more detail, not add in additional steps or exercise.

Hi and welcome to the forums!

If you go to the exercise tile you can manually add (or start tracking) exercise by clicking the timer in the top right corner. Pick or search for your exercise and add the start time, duration and/or various other things like distance or custom calories burned  depending on your exercise.

You can also manually add exercise from your dashboard by going to your log > activities and you'll find the option at the bottom of the page.

Try again. Fail again. Fail better.

Hello @Layla277, have a warm welcome to the Fitbit Community, it's great to see new faces around. It's nice to see you around too @ThatGreen, thanks for your insight about this situation.

@Layla277, as @ThatGreen mentioned you can manually add an activity by tapping on the chronometer icon on the top right corner of the exercise screen. Additionally, you can tap on the plus sign on the bottom of the Dashboard, then tap on Track Exercise.

On the next screen, tap on LOG, search the activity you'd like to add and you'll get a new screen where you can fill the following information:

  • Time or date when the activity starts
  • Duration (time)
  • Pace (optional for step based activities)
  • Calories burned
  • Distance.

After filling this information, you can tap on ADD at the top right corner of the screen to save your activity.

I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and keep me posted in case you need anything else! Smiley Wink

Hello @Scooby08, thanks for joining the conversation, it's a pleasure for me to welcome you to the Fitbit Community! Smiley Happy

Which tracker are you currently wearing? Since when have you experienced this issue? Which activity are you trying to log in?

If possible, please reply to me with a screenshot of the exercise you're logging in so I can check this further.

Thank you for your patience and understanding, I'll be waiting for your reply!

Hi, i have a fitbit charge 2. I have only had this issue for about 1 week now. When i go to my dashboard & go to track exercise. I then go to log my walk, i log my exercise with start time & duration then save. (I only do this when it doesnt log me walk automatically) It then calculates my calories & active minutes. This is when it cuts my steps, calories & active minutes down.

Hi there @Scooby08, I hope you're having a great day, thanks for taking the time to reply. Smiley Happy

This seems like a very odd situation but it's possible the information is not updating correctly on the Fitbit app after you log in a manual activity. In this particular case I would like to suggest the following:

  • Log in a manual activity.
  • Go to the online Dashboard and check if your active minutes and calories are showing correctly in here.
  • If they are, go to the Fitbit app and log out from it, restart your phone and log back in.

In case this doesn't seem to do the trick, please try to Restart your Charge 2. Then start the activity from the tracker itself by:

  1. Going to the Multi-sport section of your Charge 2 (by tapping the button on the side)
  2. Tap on the screen until the activity you'd like to start appears
  3. Press and hold the button for 2 seconds to start the activity. To stop the activity, press and hold the button for 2 seconds once again.

I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and keep me posted. Smiley Wink

Hello @mrtimothy, I hope you're doing well, it's nice to see you around. Smiley Happy

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. It seems that you're accessing the MobileTrack function in the Fitbit app, which is why you're only able to see Run, Walk and Hike. Please note that the Multi-sport mode in your Charge 2 is accessed by tapping the button on the side, tap it a couple of times until you see the first exercise (Run, Walk, Treadmill, etc), then swipe left to see the other exercises and select the one you want to use. However, swimming is not an activity that can be auto-recognized on your Charge 2 as the Charge 2 is not swim-proof.

If you'd like to record your swimming activities you can do it by adding it manually in the Fitbit app and please keep in mind that we do not recommend using your Charge 2 while swimming.

I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and keep me posted in case you need anything else.

So multisport is not available on the app, just on the Fitbit UI itself?
