How exactly does the Fitbit app calculate the macronutrient percentages, because there is no way it is calculating them correctly. How is it that when I enter that I ate two scrambled eggs with each serving having roughly 7.5 grams off fat, 6.75 grams protein and 1.35 grams of carbs that the percentages I get end up being 68% fat, 27% protein, and 5% carbs. Based off my math, there is a total of 15.6 grams of macros per serving, which would mean fat should be 48%, protein 43.3%, and carbs 8.7%. What is it that I am missing or is the app just wrong?

There are 4 calories per gram for both carbs and protein, while fat have 9 calories per gram. As the percentage are based on calories, then the computation is correct.

Yep - right on the money.
fat | 7.5 | 9 | 67.5 | 0.675676 |
carb | 1.35 | 4 | 5.4 | 0.054054 |
pro | 6.75 | 4 | 27 | 0.27027 |
99.9 |

I eat the same thing every. single. morning. And my macronutrients have suddenly skipped from 26% carbs, 10% protien, and 12% fat, to 51% carbs, 29% protein, and 72% fat? Like what even?

I entered 2 scrambled eggs and it says 0 percent protein.

There are several times the same item in the database and some have the wrong information. The database is populated by users and there are lots of mistakes out there. But I am sure you can find a Scramble egg item with the right protein macros.

Great call and while something I know is true I completely forgot about when running into the same "problem". It would be great if Fitbit based it on calories instead of grams as I'm sure the majority of people don't realize that about fat and also their Learn More section doesn't explain it either.

August 9, 2020 I was trying to keep track of my macronutrients with the Fitbit app
I was trying to upload a screenshot but of course to attach is sucky🙄
I had .25 serving of goat cheese yet it still registers that I have consumed the entire nutritional portion @ 10 grams of fat etc. The fat portion should be portioned along with the serving size. The app has done all of my food items this way. NOT VERY HELPFUL😫. When consumers make an investment they expect to get a return...keeping track of nutrition is the front line of a healthy lifestyle not fitness

Mine is calculated correctly. I wonder if they fixed the app since you posted? I have found a lot of things I don't like about Fitbit, but this wasn't one. I didn't ever recognize an issue with my calculation before and have been using it for years. 🤔 I hope yours gets figured out!

The IOM calculated an acceptable macronutrient walgreenslistens distribution range for carbohydrate (45%-65% of energy), protein (10%-35% of energy), and fat (20%-35% of energy; limit saturated and trans fats).

I agree that this is confusing. The information should be clearer and better presented.
Nowhere it is mentioned that "MACRONUTRIENTS" shows the total calorie. Sure, that page shows calorie intake. But there is no title/legend on the pie chart, and the only units we see are for the number of grams consumed for each macronutrient. When you click on "Learn more", you still don't mention what is presented on that pie chart. Nowhere it is mentioned that there are 4 calories per gram for carbs/protein, and 9 calories per gram of fat. It's a lot of guesses to figure what's shown.
Now that I understand what it is, I appreciate this kind of information. But you should improve how the information is presented because right now it's really confusing.
