Receiving constant notification to turn on "Location Services"

As you can see in the attached image, I am constantly getting notifications telling me to turn on Location Services to ‘Always’. I have no intention of doing that, and it was never an issue before. Is there a way to get rid of this message? Thanks

This is what worked for me. Since doing it, the notification hasn't
happened again. Don't know why it's different for you.

I have same problem.   Repeated tweets to Fitbit give me a response that suggest they don't understand the problem.  Not happy with Fitbit!

Same here, how can this issue be treated as "resolved" whereas it clearly is NOT?

I have a Versa Lite and am experiencing the same problem.

BLUETOOTH: Contrary to the suggested answer, the app does **not** synch upon opening when "Bluetooth Sharing" is turned off. But even when I do turn off Bluetooth Sharing I still get this annoying pop up.

GPS: I prefer "While Using App" to "Always" -- not just for privacy, but also to minimize battery pull on my phone.

It is not necessary for Fitbit to have a user's location 24/7.

Fitbit: PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE give a valid answer for how to resolve this problem!

I have this same issue with my Versa 2. I had the Versa 2 for about a year before the September update that changed so many things for the worse. I just ran the new January update and I believe that most bugs are fixed, but this one. I have diligently searched in my iPhone 7 for any sign of GPS or of Bluetooth sharing. I can't find anything at all! Like BlankBoy, I really want this extremely annoying popup to go away for good. I tried turning off Bluetooth, but that made my device unable o sync. I do NOT see sharing or location or GPS anywhere in Settings. I have tried my phone settings and my device settings. I wish someone could help us.

-------------------------

As I told Marco above, there is no sign of location or Bluetooth sharing or of GPS that I can see on my iPhone7. A different helper told me to turn off GPS, but that is not an option. I had my Versa 2 for about a year before this

Beckyz  I was delighted to read your post and hoped it would work fo my Versa 2. It didn't. I followed your directions which were excellent. When I got to GPS for walking, it was already off. I then tried to sync with my iPhone. The annoyig popup for location is still there.

-------------------------

BeckyZ: Your response was the most detailed that I have seen. I was able to do exactly as you said. sadly, it did not work. I have never even looked at the exercise options as I jus walk. You helped me learn something new, but I still have the Location Access-Bluetooth Sharing thing every single time I sync.

Someone else suggested a GPS off option. I tried that, but it did not help at all. She helped me learn something new about settings, but I am still cursed with the popup.

I have all push notifications turned off. BUT the notification comes in the app when I open it. No! I still wont share my location. Getting very fed up with this!

It does look like fitbit wont fix it.

You are right ... Fitbit is not going to fix.   I escalated and their position is that the App works best with Location Sharing turned on.  They would not comment on my point that all the features I use on Fitbit work fine without Location Sharing turned on.  I suspect Fitbit's personal data collection is making them attractive for Google to acquire.  When my Fitbit dies I will switch to an alternative.

Thank you, Maddog21. My Versa 2 is acting a little odd. When it dies, I shall get an Apple watch. I bought and returned two different Garmin watches. I need easy to use alarms that repeat and an easy to use timer. Fitbit excels at this. Garmin does not. Garmin was less generous with my steps, so I suspect it is more accurate.

As you all probably know, Fitbit was acquired by Google and Google is now requiring location information in order to sync your Fitbit device to an Android phone.  (See below) If you are syncing to an Android phone, you must allow location services. This is not something to be “fixed.” It is a Google requirement. You can read more about it here

Edit: It would not surprise me if Google set the same requirement for iPhones.

And as you might see, we are also several iOS-users.

As mentioned by another user, I will also switch clock when this is worn out.

I say no to Fitbit and location tracking.

This is for Maddog21 and others:  Two days ago, my iPhone suddenly STOPPED asking me to turn on location. Really, it did! This is a mystery, but I have had more than 48 hours WITHOUT the extremely annoying pop up that made me click No Thanks. Has anyone else been BLESSED with this new wrinkle?  I am amazed and thrilled.

Carol,

See my shocking news below. My iPhone is no longer asking me for location. I have been blessedly free from the requirement to say No Thanks each time I sync for over 48 hours now. I have no clue, but I am thrilled.

Yes. 2 days Of actually using the app without being asked. Hopefully they fixed it. But these short reprieves have happened before and then it came back. Hoping this is permanent.

I've been in contact with Fitbit on Twitter about this behavior. It's a violation of the App Store's Review Guidelines.

Here is the thread on Twitter:

Here is a link to App Store's guidelines:
https://developer.apple.com/app-store/review/guidelines/#data-collection-and-storage

This behavior from the Fitbit app violates section 5.1.1 (iv) of that agreement. If anyone has any idea of how to report this to App Store, let me know. I'm trying to do that now.

It also goes against Apple's Human Interface Guidelines about requesting permission from the user:

I wrote a reply to hkperrin to thank him for his brilliant response. Fitbit has blocked me multiple times from posting this.
