Steps being counted when not using it

For the last two days my Fitbit charge 3 has been counting steps when I’m not moving or wearing it. It also did not record my sleep last night.

Hi @SunsetRunner. Welcome! It's great to see a new face around.

Thanks for letting me know that your Charge 3 and let me help you with each of your inquiries. While it's odd that you're getting steps when not even using it, may I know if there was a fan or anything that may have been buzzing or vibrating on the same surface that your Fitbit was placed on? While we don't have a way to remove those steps, please try restarting your Charge 3 to correct any misbehavior and monitor for the next days to see how it goes.

About the sleep, please make sure of the following factors that may affect your sleep tracking:

  • If you slept in a position that prevented your tracker from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely. For best results, wear your device higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone).
  • If you used the Begin Sleep Now option in the Fitbit app (instead of simply wearing your device to bed).
  • If you slept for less than 1 hour to get sleep patterns, or 3 hours for sleep stages.
  • If your device’s battery is critically low.

If those conditions don't apply to you, on your Charge 3 swipe to the left, tap on settings and turn off and on the heart rate settings. Wear it on your non-dominant wrist for one night and sync the next day to see your sleep data.

I'll be around, keep me posted.
