There is an issue with Alta hr--it blows out every time I try to go into it

I'm trying to figure out why my Alta hr doesn't show sleep stages, but it blows out. I upgraded from an Alta to Alta hr. Up if won't show sleep stages. I've had Fitbit's for a long time. Issue somewhere

Hi, @DebbiB, I am not sure why you might be having issues with your Alta HR.

If you are not getting sleep stages, the most usual reasons are:

1. You manually started your sleep via the app, rather than letting it auto detect with your Fitbit

2 Your sleep was less than 3 hours

3. For some reason your Alta HR was not able to detect a continuous, accurate heartrate during the night.  This could be caused by how you are wearing the Alta HR or the position your arm is when you sleep (possibly very flexed wrist)

If you didn't start sleep manually, and your sleep was more than 3 hours, it sounds like the 3rd possibility is the most likely.  You might need to experiment with the way you wear your Fitbit -- how high on the wrist and how tight...  It should be tight enough that no light from the outside environment leaks onto the LEDs, but not so tight that it restricts your bloodflow.  Also it should be worn 1 to 2 fingers above the wrist bone.

Although I don't THINK this would be a factor in this case, whenever your Fitbit is not behaving as expected, you are always advised to give it a restart -- ideally repeat this for 3 restarts in succession (just for good measure!)

Hopefully you will be able to get your sleep stages going.  Mine has been working pretty consistently, but it did fail one night, and my daughter has reported that hers can be a little inconsistent -- I suspect this is because the heart rate is intermittent.

Hi!
Since I have had a Fitbit before, I tried several things before inquiring. The first 2 suggestions were not in the equation at all. As to how to wear it, I've tried it loose and I've tried it tight. That didn't seem to make a difference. I had restarted it twice already to no avail.
I'm at a loss as to why it doesn't work for me. I tried setting it to sensitive to see if that helped and it didn't matter. If I look at my heart rate it appears to reading it over night. I can't even let my husband try it because I have the small band, so it won't fit him. He has the Blaze and sees his sleep patterns fine.

Thanks for your time!
