Unable to update Charge 3.

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I have a new Charge 3. It was recognized by my iPhone and apparently did an initial sync (my data from my Alta HR appears in my Charge 3 dashboard). But it keeps saying an update is available and it keeps returning an error when I try to download the update.

Charge 3 is charge and is near my iPhone. I have confirmed Bluetooth is on and working and co firmed I have internet connection. I have restarted the Charge 3 several times and restarted my iPhone. Still won’t complete the update.

I'm with you.  Just received the Charge 3 as a gift and it's not setting up with the iphone latest ios (12.??). Also the microsoft computer can't connect to it on bluetooth.  The app says (after failing) "make sure the display turns on when you push the button."  What button?  I can't find a button anywhere on the phone...

So I randomly tried the update again and it updated successfully. So I guess you keep trying and eventually it will work.

I posted this in another thread:

So on the Charge 3 there's this magic you can work by pressing the 'button' (it's on the left side- very little motion to it so it's easy to miss) for a long time.  Not sure what the time is (30 sec maybe?) but when I did and went to the beginning of the app and started over by "hand" it paired and seems to work.  HTH.

Hello everyone, I hope you're doing well. Smiley Happy

I appreciate your participation in the Forums and for sharing your experience with us. Please note that the Charge 3 has a button on the left side, it's not a typical button though, but when you press it you will feel a vibration. Now, if you're having trouble setting up your Charge 3, please follow these steps:

  1. Turn off Bluetooth on your phone; wait 10 seconds, and then turn it back on.
  2. Make sure you have a strong WiFi signal and that there are no other Bluetooth devices around that might interfere with the setup process.
  3. Restart your Charge 3.
  4. If you can't set up after a restart, reboot your phone or tablet and try to set up again.
  5. If you can't set up after the reboot, remove all other Fitbit devices from your account and from the list of connected Bluetooth devices on your phone or tablet and try to set up the Charge 3 one more time.

Now, if you're having trouble updating it, I would like to suggest you the following:

  1. Restart the tracker.
  2. "Remove" the tracker from your account inside of the Fitbit app.
  3. "Forget" the tracker from your phone's Bluetooth settings (along with any other Fitbit devices paired to your phone)
  4. Try the update again.

I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and let us know the outcome.

I have tried everything you have suggested to update the Charge 3...3 times turned off and on my IPhone; reloaded app 3 times; turned off Bluetooth and turned back on 3 times...nothing is working! Without being able to upload the update, my tracker won’t sync with my phone. What can I do??

This shouldn't be so difficult to set this thing up. Trying to change the clockface using the iOS app on a iPad Pro and the app just sits there and asks for more apps to be downloaded. Getting really frustrated and will be taking this back to Best Buy

Same exact issues. I am extremely frustrated and want to just return the device. Fitbit support's suggestion is to use an android device (I only have apple). Why are they marketing the product as compatible with apple devices??

I actually started this thread on fitbit community. I waited 45 days and fitbit never gave me a solution that made my charge 3 connect with my iPhone. After countless requests for information, or any sort of timeline for resolving the issue, fitbit just sent me a package to return my device.

No explanation. No proactive communication.  No attempt to retain me as a valued customer.

Needless to say, I returned the device. Got a refund. And now I’m an Apple Watch customer. It’s a shame fitbit couldn’t do more to improve customer service or improve production of quality products.

I have this same issue. I got the first download and sync done but now it won't sync up with my iPhone or tablet. It just says looking/searching

I have tried everything including setting up as a new Fitbit however even this won’t work, my phone just keeps searching for the Fitbit and can’t find it. The Fitbit is turned on and charging, Bluetooth is turned on, on my phone but still won’t work.

Delete and download the app fresh and also forget any Fitbit devices you have in Bluetooth settings. You need to start from a totally clean slate.

Hello @Peter75, I hope you're doing well, thanks for joining the Fitbit Community. Smiley Happy

I appreciate you have joined the conversation and let us know you're experiencing issues when trying to update your Charge 3. Before you begin the firmware update, make sure your watch is plugged into the charger and in range of your Wi-Fi network during the update. For best results, use your home or work Wi-Fi network. If you've never connected your watch to WiFi, see How do I connect my Fitbit watch to Wi-Fi?. If your Charge 3 is having trouble updating with WiFi, please try the following:

  1. Make sure your watch is connected to the Wi-Fi network you want to use.
  2. Move your watch closer to your router.
  3. Make sure your router is connected to the internet.
  4. Restart your Charge 3.
  5. Try again to update your watch.

If the update fails, restart your mobile device and try to update again. If your Charge 3 can't update over WiFi follow the on-screen instructions in the Fitbit app to update your watch over Bluetooth instead. Note that firmware updates over Bluetooth may take significantly longer to complete. If the Versa is having trouble updating through Bluetooth try the following:

  1. Try turning Bluetooth on and off on your phone.
  2. Restart your Charge 3 again.
  3. Try again to update your watch.
  4. Restart your mobile device and try to update again.

I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and keep me posted in case you need anything else.
