That sounds like a bug and you shouldn't need to purchase a new Fitbit device to resolve this. Absolutely no guarantee that the Alta HR will not have the same problem. Fitbit needs to officially acknowledge the issue with iPhone 8 Bluetooth and plans to resolve.
I think this 50 percent off thing is a tactic Fitbit uses to try to get you to purchase a new device when there are problems. They offered the same to me when my less than one year old Charge would not hold a charge for more than a day. This was at the time right before they introduced the Charge 2 and inventory for the original Charge in my size was low. I persisted with my insistence that they honor the warranty and send me a replacement device. Eventually, they relented and sent me a new device; although, I had to get a different color. It is disappointing that they do this. That's exactly what I told them when they tried to pull this on me.
