Is there an API available that will display text at a specific time? If so, which devices support?

I bought a Fitbit Alta HR device a few years ago and liked the notifications to do my steps every hour, and it got me thinking it would be really nice if I could just schedule out my entire day in Google Calendar or something and get notifications with text on my Fitbit device.

 

Unfortunately, I seem to remember the Alta HR didn't have an API to do that sort of thing (specifically I don't think it could display text), but can anyone confirm if the smart watch devices do have an API for that? If so, which devices specifically support that API?
