Alta keeps dying when fully charged

Hello,

I've been having continuous issues with the Alta line of fitbits. I was gifted one just over a month ago, and within the 1st week it kept dying.

It was fully charged and I tried resetting it. This would work as a very temporary fix, as it would die again within the next couple hours.

Figured maybe it was just a faulty watch, so I went back to Sportcheck and exchanged it for a new Alta. Problem is, I am having the exact same issues with this new Alta as well.

I really want to use this product, but at this point it just seems like a poorly made gadget built to die. I've read countless reports of the same problem with this device, and am hoping the Fitbit company can do something about this situation.

I could easily go and exchange the watch again, but I dont know if its worth it if the product is just bad.

Hope to hear from a representative.

Thank you,

Brooke

I think "supporting" in this context means "We'll keep sending out more of these devices as replacements until all your warranties expire.  And try to upsell you on new, more expensive devices too, with no guarantee they are any better than the Alta".

You moderators are amazing.  How long have you been drinking the Koolaid?  We aren't as dumb as you think we are.  Can't you tell by the shear volume (not to mention content) of all these posts that we are fed up?  Then to have some Stepford moderator post a reply that fixes absolutely nothing but tells us how great Fitbit is...Well, it's insulting at best.  Take off the glasses and stop sipping long enough for a reality check.  We aren't happy for some very legitimate reasons, warranty or not.  So having you spew undeserved Fitbit accolades just reinforces my belief that in exchange for hyping their products, you must get yours for free.  Easy to like defective if it doesn't cost you a dime!Sent from my Boost Mobile Phone.

It’s crazy how willing the company is to lose the goodwill of longtime customers. Once that loyalty is gone, it’s not coming back, and those customers (us) will move on to Garmin, an Apple Watch, a Fossil smart watch, etc.

Mine keeps dying as well. I have the Alta HR. I have cleaned the contact points and pins, made sure the charger is plugged into the proper power source (tried multiple power blocks and outlets), and reset the thing at least a dozen times. When I put my Fitbit on the charger, nothing happens - it appears dead. After pushing the reset button, it will show that it’s halfway or fully charged and continue charging. So i’ll Let it finish charging, put it on, and within 2-3 hours, it’s back to a “dead” screen again. It’s not actually dead; when I plug it in and push reset a bunch of times, it will show that it is partway charged. This has been my endless cycle for a week now, and I’m very frustrated. My Alta HR is a little over a year old. Can you help me?

I have the 21.40.2 Alta and I love it.

it stopped working unless it was plugged into the charger. I tried resetting it and as soon as I take it off the charger it stops working. I cleaned the charging port site too and no luck.

I am so sad☹️

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately despite doing all the fixes and troubleshooting (cleaning, overnight charging, uninstalling, resetting) I too have been experiencing the same issues with my Alta’s unexpected sporadic dying with a full charge and only turning back on when plugged into the wall charger for the last 2 weeks. I sure miss it! Is there anyway to have Support please look into this and contact me please? Many thanks in advance!

I have to admit, the replacement I got has worked perfectly so far.  Maybe there was a bad batch, rather than a universal problem...

Fingers crossed it continues, of course 😁

Customer support doesn’t even help with the problem, I called them today and because the warranty has expired there’s nothing they can do even though this is clearly an issue with their product. Then when asked to speak to a supervisor, the supervisor then hangs up on you when you asked to be transferred to someone else that will help because they clearly are neglecting that’s fact that is is an issue with said product.

@JB1327 I am sorry to hear about your experience with Customer SupportI totally understand how you are feeling. It's difficult when the device is no longer covered by the warranty, but even though Support is eager to help with any problems you may experience with the product, they do need to adhere to the official warranty policy. I appreciate your understanding.

Dear whoever@fitbit. Please don’t waste your time sending a thank you for joining the Fitbit community, sorry for the delay, and your responses were heard. Absolute crap. I had problems with my Alta and looked to see if there was anything i could do to rectify the problem. Tried every step listed mostly by other users not bullcrap from Fitbit and none of it worked. Your options are an absolute joke and I hope every single person on this thread drops you. Dear moderator, I know you are just telling people what the company tells you to say but you are better than this and you know it.

It’s been several months now since this thread was bombarded with same issues in Alta. I have myself, unfortunately, accepted that Fitbit is doing nothing about this and in fact have purposely bricked the device with the last update.

See for yourself, there was a time when I used to receive updates almost every month for Alta, compared to now when there’s isn’t a single update from Fitbit. This tactic says it all.

I have pledged that I’ll never waste my money again on Fitbit devices. If they really wanted to do something, they would have done that much earlier.

Thanks Fitbit for showing me your worth and helping in choosing the right path of not choosing you again ever.

Best Regards

Yep.  And once again my Fitbit alta has gone dark.  It was fine a couple of hours ago and was charged (my last display showed 62%).  I checked my App but lo and behold it had logged me out (again) and now that I've I logged back in the app cant find my device.  Unpaired it and now my phone can't find it either.

I will attempt to reset it (again) when I get home from work but this is getting ridiculous.

Hello there,

I am from India. I have Fitbit Alta which is more than 2 years old. It is giving issues. The display does not turn on. It turns on only after I plug into the charger and as soon as I unplug the charger, it again goes off forever (as soon as display goes off). I am told that currently there is no fitbit repair outlet. I could not find spare Alta's battery at online store. Please advise. Is there anything I can do with it except buying another one at discounted price? If there is an option to turn Alta's display always on, or step and calories counter off,etc so that I can at least use it as a simple watch, that would be very helpful. I bought it for about INR 10k (around 140 USD) so I just do not want to throw it away. Please do help...

I am battling the same issue, almost at the one year marker I'm having to replace it. Won't hold charge and bands keep breaking at base.

Lately, my Alta keeps going black and stops working. When I put it on the charger, it shows my device is charged. I have enjoyed wearing and using my Fitbit but this is becoming a nuisance.
