80+ days streak gone because I got a new device?! why?

After upgrading from the Pixel Watch to Pixel Watch 3, I noticed my step streak message had gone from 80+ to 7 days, with owning the Pixel Watch 3 for a week.

I queried with support and got this response:

"Thank you for your response. It’s a pleasure to assist you further.

We understand how frustrating this must be, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

 

Unfortunately, due to the nature of how streaks are tracked and the way data is synced across devices, it's not possible to restore a lost streak once it has been interrupted.

We appreciate your kind understanding regarding this matter and look forward to helping you in case any other concerns arise.
