Is there any way that I can add dancing to my tracking exercise workouts?

I hope you're enjoying your time in the Forums @shiz!

While it is not possible to add custom exercises to the list on your tracker, it is possible to manually log the activity into your account to get the calories tracked on your account. In order to manually log an activity you can:

1. Open the Fitbit app. Tap the Exercise tile to open your exercise history. This is the tile that says "Track exercise" if you haven't worked out today.
2. Tap the stopwatch icon in the top right corner.
3. Search for the acitvity that you wish to create (dancing).
4. Adjust the activity details and tap Log It.

Additionally, I did find this suggestion to 'Add Dance or Dancing to exercise list'. Perhaps you could vote for it or comment on it to show your support.

I hope you find this useful! If you have any further questions, please lt me know.

Quite honestly, I don't see a point of using a Fitbit if I have to record my exercise manually. The whole point of getting a fitness tracker is that it will accurately record my exercise activity, vs. my guesswork.

Thanks for stepping into the Forums @Olana!

Adding the activity manually is an option for exercises or activities not included in the current list. Having said that, I did look around and found a suggestion to add Dance as an activity. Perhaps you could vote for it or comment on it to show your support.

Hope to see tyou around!

edited my whole response, cause with the latest update everything works just fine 🙂

Anyway however, adding a regular workout like dancing (I do dance workouts several times in a week) manually is unacceptable.

Plus, the automatic calories counting when adding dancing manually is not exactly correct, since it very much depends on the heart rate as well - sometimes I´m having a low heartrate excercise like arm undulations etc., sometimes very high heartrate training 🙂

Therefore I still ask you to add dancing to the automatically tracked activities - that it can be chosen on the watch under Excercise shortcuts.

Thanks

I just got a fitbit to track my exercise, but if it doesn't allow me to dance which is my prime way of exercising in the icy winter, what's the point of having a fitbit? Please allow us to have individual ways of exercising.

I wonder what other tracker works better?

I agree.

Please add dancing as an exercise. It is a great way to get the heart rate up.

I would like to see dance added as well 🙂

Wow.  I was shocked to stumble upon this when I went to add a dancing shortcut to my activity and there was nothing there.  Not only do many people dance for exercise but entire multi-million dollar fitness programs center around it.  Seems like a no brainer to me.  Is it really that complicated for the engineers to add this simple activity?

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @JenA10.

Regarding your inquiry, Zumba and Dancing are available as an activity on the Fitbit app so you can log them. To do so, tap on the "+" symbol on the Exercise tile and type "Zumba" or "Dancing" and enter the details to log the activity.

See you around.

I'm not seeing it on the app. I'm looking to add it as a shortcut and it's
not listed. Do you have a link for further instruction?

Hi, @JenA10.

First you need to tap on the "+" icon on the Exercise tab:

Then tap on the magnifying glass and type "Dancing":

Enter the details of the activity and select "Log It".

Hope this helps.

Hi there,

Is there any way to add dance or ballet to the lists of workouts shown on my fitbit directly (like running or swimming etc)? Always going to the app to manually add seems to defeat the whole purpose of my fitbit.

Will I have to start anything manually for my next dance class or will it track my activities, heart rate and calories automatically???

Happy for any tips as I just got my charge 5.

Thanks!!

So what was the point in getting a Fitbit to track workouts (and other things) if we’re just estimating our workouts? Everyone’s  body is different and burns calories and reacts to workouts differently. Honestly making me second guess why I just Didn’t get an Apple Watch so I could Track my workouts accordingly and not have to manually do it.

exactly, I would love to add dancercize or zumba but it's not there and if you add it yourself you're only estimating the calories

I've been saying this for YEARS. Dance should be a basic option in the drop down menu. It is ridiculous that Apple has everything from pickleball to aerobics, but this watch which is specifically meant for exercise tracking doesn't have anything to choose for dance fitness.

Agree! 2022 and still no dancing. Apple had EVERYTHING and this watch is supposed to be for exercise

Amen to that I do dance workouts to cuz there knee friendly ive had bad knees for many years was actually born with dislocated knees and was also told i may need replacement of both and hip replacement  as well

Honestly new workout shortcuts on the list whould be nice like skating battle ropes strength training and resistance training

People want it auto track not manually  entering not many ppl have time to kill like some others do and find manually logging an inconvenience  and nor very accurate

I so agree with you on this people don't want manual log tcuz it's not convenient

@Stephanieglinsk   You don't say what model Fitbit you use.  Fitbit added Dance and Skating to the Exercise Shortcut list with the Sense 2 and Versa 4.  For all other models, you use the Workout exercise shortcut and can change the name after the fact.  For your other exercises, you might have to pick something close.

Where do we vote to add dance?  I always use the fitness button and I put my watch on my ankle to it can also get my steps in.

Olana,   When I do Werq or Zumba I use the fitness option and put my watch on my ankle so I can get my steps in too.
