Andriod Fitbit app crashes on start

I am running Android v 7.1.1 and fitbit app 2.71 and recently the app crashes when starting. I do not see any post specifically related to this issue but tried several steps to resolution such as clearing the cache and deleting then reinstalling the fitbit app. None of which have worked. Ideas?

I have same problem since last app update. Cannot start app or sync device. Not acceptable
