Did you mean:

Android App should not need an internet connection to simply enter calories

This has bugged me for a long time, but only recently have I made the effort to actually report it. Part of the reason I have not made the effort before is because I have no faith the Fitbit developers will do anything about it. They have consistently demonstrated that they will try and deflect issues rather than address them.

In any case...

Recently I was in an area without good wifi or cellular connectivity. I had something to eat, and wanted to enter in the calories. But, of course, since I was not connected to the internet, I got this screen:

Just about every app I have that I can think of that needs to do data synchronization is capable of taking input when offline, and then syncing when back online.

The amount of data Fitbit has to sync, even if it were days worth of data, could only be a JSON of maybe a few hundred or thousand kilobytes. I'd be surprised if it were anywhere near a megabyte.

There is absolutely no need to have an internet connection to do simple operations.

Either the developers have implemented very bad code, or this is a deliberate attempt to make users feel that they need Fitbit online services. Which, by the way, we don't. We could easily store our data on services like Dropbox, Google, or Sync.com if Fitbit weren't trying to get us to sign up to their premium accounts.

Anyway, I can live with not syncing to one of the dozens of existing online storage services.

But it's ridiculous that the Fitbit app does not work without an active internet connection. Just store the data when I enter it, and sync when an internet connection becomes available. Like just about every app in the world can do.

@Dave_M_G Hi there.

Thanks for taking the time to share your comments about the Fitbit app. I see where you're coming from.

Your feedback is appreciated, be sure that this helps us to continue improving and features are implemented and improved based in user's comments. The best place to make your voice heard is our Feature Suggestion board, those ideas are reviewed by our team and the status will change depending on Fitbit plans.

I've found some ideas that you might want to vote for, however you're always invited to post your own if they doesn't reflect exactly what you'd like

Allow Offline syncing / Store data locally

Improve Fitbit app operability with poor internet connections

Hope this helps.

@SilviaFitbit

Thank you for responding, but the link to the feature I would support, "Allow for Offline syncing", has been closed, marked as "not currently planned", and is not open for comments. This is in keeping with Fitbit's general policy of limiting dialog with its customers, as was described and expected in the opening paragraph of the original post.

The other feature, operability with poor internet connections, is not relevant to my suggestion.

@Dave_M_G Thank you for getting back.

Note that the ideas marked as "not currently planned" stayed with the vote feature open, this to continue monitoring their popularity. Learn more about this board by checking the following posts:
