I have a Moto G5 Plus (Android 7.0) and it has difficulties syncing. I used to sync almost always, and whenever I opened it the dashboard would have the latest info. I would how many steps I'd taken that day and so on. Now it takes a long time to sync, even if i keep 'pulling' it to sync. Lately it started displaying "Sync error, please try again."
I also have another older phone, a Moto e w/Android 4.1 and a ASUS A1-840 tablet w/Android 4.4.4.
I Have found that when I try either one it will sync, not right away, but within a minute of two, and then very soon after that the phone will also sync. It is very frustrating.
I have been told that the Fitbit uses a low power type of Bluetooth that isn't on all the time and that my older devices don't have this capability so they connect faster. Is there any truth to this? It seems to be so.
The screenshots here show a 1.68 mile walk, and the dashboard shows it not having synced since hours before the walk as well as the "Sync error..."

Hello @sag621.
Thanks for bringing this up.
What might be happening is that the Moto G5 Plus and the other two devices are not part of the supported devices list. This means that the app is not fully optimized to work with those devices.
There is a possibility that the it will work as long as the minimum requirements are fulfilled, Android 4.4 and Bluetooth 4.0, but we cannot guarantee that it will. Having said that, some users with phones that aren't on the list have mentioned that following the steps in this article has helped them with phones that aren't on the list. Maybe you could give it a shot.
Additionally, you could try to sync with a computer, if you have one handy.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
