I've added the Android primary goal widget to my homescreen, and although my primary goal is set as active minutes in the Fitbit app, the daily stepcount is shown in the widget.
Is there a way to get the primary goal widget to actually show the primary goal that's set in the app?

This is disappointing. The widget is clearly named as primary goal but does not work as advertised.

This is only true for Active Minutes, I can set it to other goals just fine - but those are not my goals.

I'm running into the same issue. I can set the main goal to distance, steps, or calories and the widget shows properly. But when I set it to Active Zone Minutes it shows steps instead.
Fitbit Support -- any ideas?
