App constantly shows way too many steps

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

In the past few weeks, the app is constantly showing way too many steps on the app. I had mornings where the app claimed I had more than 100,000 steps done already.

Now I even won the 70,000 steps trophy even though I only had 22k actual stepsaward.PNGactual.PNG

When you force the sync with the device (Charge 3) it sometimes corrects the number again, but sometime it just as quickly returns to the wrong value,

I tried to force-stop the app on the Android and then clear the cache, no luck so far.

Nice to see you here, @djdoena.

Thanks for the details and screenshots provided. I appreciate the troubleshooting steps performed as well. Do you have another fitness app connected to your Fitbit account? If another fitness app (that track steps using another device or your phone) is connected to your Fitbit account, it could be login steps and for this reason your steps amount is increasing. If you setup MobileTrack on your account, you can try removing it by tapping on your profile's picture > MobileTrack > Unpair and then test if your steps are still increasing.

Hope this helps.

No other app, no other account. As seen in the second screenshot from the Dashboard website the account knows that I only truly had 22k steps that day and yet some glitch causes the number to temporarily go up and even give me awards based on these faulty numbers.

Hi, @djdoena.

Thanks for the update. Do you have MobileTrack setup on your account? MobileTrack is one feature from the Fitbit app that allows you to track steps using your phone when you're not wearing your Charge 3. If you're wearing your Charge 3 and carrying your phone in your pocket at the same time, both will track steps and sync them to your account (which can explain the high amount of steps).

If you do have MobileTrack, you can try removing it from your account by tapping on your profile's picture > MobileTrack > Unpair. Then leave just your Charge 3 paired to your account and test it out. This will give you an idea if your Charge 3 is overcounting steps.

Catch you later.

Are you saying I should set Physical Activiy Permission to "Don't Allow" on the Fitbit app? I am running a Pixel 6, with the latest Android and a Pixel Watch.

Thanks for your answer
