App is adding thousands of extra steps, changes count

Got my Charge 3 four weeks ago. (This is my 4th Fitbit, so I've been using one for years). Set it up and synced with the app fine. Now it is acting wonky. The device counts steps fine. Right now, it shows 11,742 for today, which should be correct. The app, however, shows 15,593. When I sync it, it goes back to 11,742, but if I pick up my phone, it changes to 15,593 again. Last week, it was showing over 125,000 steps one day. I reset the Fitbit. I deleted the app from my phone and reinstalled it. It worked okay for a couple of days, then started doing this weird thing again. If the phone is lying flat, it shows the right total; if I hold it vertical, it shows the wrong number.

Hi @Deb2012 — Very strange.  Seems more like something is going on with your phone rather than your CH3.  Are using the iPhone or Android version fo the Fitbit App?

Also, do you have any other apps linked to your Fitbit account (Strava, My Fitness Pal, Wright Watchers ...)?

Thanks, Baltoscott. Yes, it does't seem like it's a problem with the Charge
3, but more of an issue with the app. I use the Android version of the app
with my Google Pixel phone. Never had any issue before with my previous
Fitbit (Charge 2). I do have Noom linked to the Fitbit app.

If noom lets you add activities they might be syncing over and changing your step count but the idea that the step count changes when you pick up or lay down the phone seems like a different issue.  You might try restarting the phone.

I’ll move this tread to the android forum in case others over there have seen the problem.

Any idea what this was a response to?

Took me a while but I think I got the whole thread moved over from the CH3 forum 🙂

Thanks @Baltoscott, for sorting that. I'm pretty sure I've seen a couple of other reports of unexpectedly high step counts but not related to the position of the phone. I shall be watching this space with anticipation.
