Since last night my app will not sync, giving the message "looking". I stopped and restarted Wi Fi.
did a hard reboot of the phone. deleted the app and reinstalled and the same garbage.

Having tried rebooting your phone without any luck, I would try rebooting your fitbit using this procedure:

I rebooted Versa 3 times before it finally worked and tracking was back
This is my last Fitbit, POOR quality, POOR support, POOR Product period
