Bluetooth Issue + Bluetooth Automation question

Hi all, just joined the Fitbit Alta HR family and liking it so far! I found a weird issue I was hoping someone can clarify:

- My bluetooth was ON for the past 12 hours so it can sync with Fitbit Alta HR. I turned OFF "Always Connected" but kept ON "All Day Sync".

- When I woke up this morning (I didn't have One Plus 5 on a charge), I saw the battery drain was a lot more than normal. I tapped the battery graph but the "Awake" bar was blank yet the battery drain graph was straight down (normally it would be flat thanks to the doze function).

- I went through each "App entry" to figure out what happened and I saw "Android OS" kept the phone on for the past 9 hours, but again, the AWAKE bar was blank. Please see screenshots:

1. So, I'm assuming having the bluetooth on makes the Android OS keep the phone awake and lead the battery drain. Does that sound correct?

2. In that case, if I were to set a rule using an app telling my bluetooth to switch on 3 times a day, each time for 5 minutes (e.g. 10AM, 3PM, 7PM). Would my Fitbit Alta HR automatically detect that and sync with the phone during those times?

Thanks so much in advance!!!!

Hi @jlee55,

Thanks for your post and supporting information. In short, I don't agree with assumption #1. Only because my phone has BT on 24/7 and haven't experienced any battery drain issues as you described (don't use All Day Sync though). But clearly something is causing the two to be chatty,

For #2, I highly doubt that would work. The app will sync if it has a connection, but the presence of bluetooth doesn't automatically cause a sync to occur. I've verified this by testing your theory. What might work, is to have the script start bluetooth, then have it start the Fitbit app. The app should sync then. Or you could have a script force stop the Fitbit app during the night, assuming you have no need for overnight syncing?

@WA

Thank you so much for getting back to me! In regards to your points, may I please ask some follow up questions:

1. So you actually do NOT use All Day Sync, but keep "Always Connected" on? And that does not result in battery drain?

2. Yes I agree with you completely. I'm going to use Macrodroid and try out that method if 1. doesn't seem to be the case.

1. Sorry if I mistyped, I actually have both of those turned off. It was less for battery life and more to conserve data usage on the phone.

2. Cool. If you think of it, come back and post here how it worked out. The idea is to take advantage of the app's tendency to sync upon being started. So any script that starts the fitbit app will probably need to force close it after sync so it c an be started anew. Of course, there may be other side effects we can't foresee, but it would be an interesting experiment.

@WavyDavey Understood, so can I please confirm:

1. You have both options turned OFF, but your BlueTooth is ALWAYS on? So you sync the Fitbit app manually everytime you open it?

2. Yes for sure I'll get to you on this. I think it could work 😄

Yes, that's exactly it. When the app starts, it syncs on its own. So it's semi-manual?
