Calories in/calories out

Hi,

New to fitbit and need some help. I really don't understand the calories in vs calories out section.
The calorie deficit I've been using for last few weeks for weight lose is 1950, when I put the food in today that I've eaten it says I'm over my calories by 153. Itso also set my calorie burn at 3200 a day. What is all this and how do I work out what I need to burn vs what I need to eat for weight lose.

As it's not a diet, instead a change in food habits, not restricting any foods as that can lead to binge eating. When reaching the desired weight goal range, still wanting to enjoy your favourite foods. When eating, see which foods you love to eat, which leaves most satisfied.

 

Natural foods (meats, fish, eggs, vegetables..) provide the body with the nutritients it needs, possible not asking for more on lower calories overall (also more filling up the stomach than preprocessed foods), the stomach responds to volume (not calories) when 'saying' having enough. If eating natural foods, filling the stomach with lots of food, but less calories overall than filling it up with preprocessed foods (bag of chips, cookies,..),.. mostly higher in calories, needing to eat more of those to fill up.. and possible still being hungry as the body requires a certain amount of nutritients (protein, fats, carbs) to function optimally. Asking for more food..

 

Calories are important, nutritients matter to.

 

Though have everything with care. Are you hungry? What does your body try to tell what it needs, and possibly how much? Try aiming to eat until comfortable satisfied, not stuffed. It's always possible to eat more again when being hungry. No need to force feed, we have access to foods any time we like. Not needing to hunt for like our hunter / gatherer ancestors needed to. The total calories depend on which foods you love to eat, leaves you most satisfied when hungry.. which is unique to everyone. Only you can tell which foods you love.

 

When allowing to eat what you desire (in the moment) when hungry, possible eating less, instead of eating something you don't want to eat first (while able to have what you originally desire), if having what you truly desire first, possible not needing the other foods.. saving lots of calories in the longer run. If having the other food first, going to have what you desire anyway, even if not hungry anymore.. Cat Wink

More can be eaten (up to 'in range' / green zone) to stay within the food plan, when being under the deficit will be larger than the selected deficit and more weight will be lost instead.

 

In zone

 

Stay in this zone to keep on track to stay within the desired deficit, when watching the food plan, you are able to see how many calories can be eaten for the day.

 

The zone chart only looks at the total intake / calories burned since midnight 'till (now). When eating more calories (according to the food plan allowance) more can be eaten but the chart can display being over at the moment since the body didn't burned as many calories yet.

 

When staying within the food plan, even when being over at the moment (eating more at dinner), it will drop back to 'within range' during the day.

 

Over

 

More calories have been eaten than the food plan (desired deficit), there may still be a deficit, and still loosing weight, but not as much as the selected weight loss plan..

 

Deficit: 500

 

Eat over with 200, there's still a deficit of 300 and still being on track to loose weight however the weight loss will be a bit less.

 

It's allowed to be 50 calories under or above the food plan to stay on track.

Besides the awesome explanation from @SunsetRunner that pretty much resumes the food plan, I advise you to look into @SebringDon's post about Fitbit's food plan. I had some trouble with this part of the Fitbit account and this explanation really helped me understand.
