Can Fitbit App Track Steps

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Hello! I downloaded the Fitbit App to my Android Samsung 6 Active, but it won't keep track of my steps. I have logged in correctly, I have the "Steps Tile" on the screen, but as I walk it won't count up the steps. This may be a stupid question, but does the Android App have to sync with a Fitbit product, or does the App work as a stand alone? Thanks!

Check you have "Live Data" enabled.  Click "dashboard" near top right of this page, then the gear icon near top right, then your device.  Scroll down to "Live Data" and make sure it is enabled.

Read more about it here: Can I see real-time data in the Fitbit appp?

Ok, I go there, when I click on the "gear" icon, I don't see any devices listed.  I click on settings, then on the small "watch" icon to see devices, and none are listed. I guess that now I need to figure out how to list my Phone as my device.  Thank you for your response! Once I can get the phone listed somehow, I will most definitely make sure Live Data is on.  Do Anyone happen to know off hand how to get my phone listed as my device? Thanks Again!

Do you have a Fitbit device? That's what I meant by "device"?

Or ar e you trying to use the FItbit and jut your phone to count steps?

Trying to just use the phone to count the steps and upload to here.  It says I can use basic tools without a device by using "MobileTrack."  Which I setup, but it still did not track any steps. I've since removed moblietrack from my phone to try and re-associate it with my phone and now I cannot even get MobileTrack back...ugh, this seems like a lost cause.

Sorry, I was first assuming you were using a Fitbit tracker.

Here's the Fitbit help section about Mobile Track; maybe you have already read it:

How do I use Mobile Track?

I haven't used it so I can't be much help but maybe someone else will.  I vaguely seem to remember something about a reduction in the phones that it works with, but no idea if that is your problem.

Hello @JohnnyRow. Welcome to the Forums @DeltaAirWalker.

@JohnnyRow Thanks for sharing that link and being around to help.

@DeltaAirWalker You definitely need to sync with a Fitbit device in order for the steps to show up in your account. Additionally, as @JohnnyRow mentioned, you could use MobileTrack to treat your phone as a Fitbit however that option is not available on the Galaxy S6 Active.

While not optimal, you could manually log a walking activity that would add steps to your account, those steps wouldn't show in Challenges or Friend's leader boards but they would count for your personal records. This would work if you're looking to have activity show up in the account, but is definitely not a workaround if you want to track your steps.

Let me know if you have any further questions.
