Can't music control while recording run with gps

I've got the lutooth classic setup on my surge so I can music control, but when I start a run with it so it tracks my GPS (whole reason I got the surge), it won't let me off the screen so I can get to the music controls. Any help?

I just tried it too, works fine on my Galaxy S6 (Samsung SM-G920V).

I dont know what was up before, but qiuckly double pressing the home button does work for me. Then again doing the restart might have fixed it.
