Can you use the Android app and web dashboard without a fitbit?

I received a Fitbit Ionic for Christmas. It's my first fitbit product. I don't think this thread is the right spot to go into details, but I am beyond frustrated with it and on the verge of returning it, and switching to a Garmin instead (Vivoactive 3 or the new Forerunner 645 Music).

At any rate, in the two-ish weeks I've been trying to get this to work, I've connected with a few friends and family in the fitbit community, and I'm enjoying basics like step challenges.

If I get another watch from another vendor that tracks steps, can I participate in the fitbit apps by manually entering steps totals each day?

You can manually log steps but they wouldn't count towards challenges so I don't think there would be much point.

Have you tried getting help with your Ionic from customer support ( contact.fitbit.com ) or are the problems something that we in the community might be able to help with?

Thanks Steve. That's too bad. Maybe I'll get a cheap basic unit to stay in the community. I guess it makes sense that you can't fudge the results manually.

I have spent plenty of time in the Ionic forum troubleshooting and working on trying different fixes. I've come to the conclusion that syncing is just plain buggy for a lot of people for this watch, which is a shame.
