Challenge steps not updating accurately

I'm wondering why my challenge steps are less than my steps for the day. Right now the challenge just "updated" and added a couple thousand steps to my total, but it didn't add everything. I'm at 7,000 for the day but the challenge says 6,500. It's a little thing, but annoying because I'm so close to one of my friends.

When I upload to my Mac desktop, I am always about 1000 less than my steps shown on my Charge 2.  This also happens on my iPad.  What to do?

My steps keep resetting to zero in the challenges,  but my daily still shows all my steps.  It will randomly do this.
