Charge 2 compatible with Samsung Galaxy A7(2018)

I'm thinking of buying a new smartphone but it must be compatible with my fitbit (I now have a Huawei which is not supported).

Am considering the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) but it does not appear on the list.  Does anyone know whether it is compatible ?

Thanks

Nancy

Welcome to the  Forums @NANLEMMENS.

Thanks for taking the time to post about this.

As you mentioned, the A7 is currently not part of the supported devices list, that means that we cannot guarantee that it will indeed work. At this moment we do not have any news of when we could expect it to be added to the list. I would like to mention that as long as it fulfills the minimum requirements, Android 4.4 and Bluetooth 4.0, there is a possibility that it can work.

Maybe you could even post about it in our Feature Suggestions board so that other users can show their support by voting or commenting on that idea. Be sure to read the FAQ to better understand how that board works if you do decided to do that.

Let me know if there are any other questions I can help you with.

Hi Karen

When you say your A7 isn't compatible is that just that it's not on the list or are you finding that it won't work?

The A7 is at the moment my preferred option but I don't want to buy one and find it doesn't work with my Versa.

That is a shame.  I've made a suggestion that the A7 is added https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Feature-Suggestions/Support-for-Samsung-Galaxy-A7-2018/idi-p/3220733 .  We need to get people to vote for it.

The fitbit advice usually suggests resetting everything, deleting bluetooth entries.  But if it's a new phone and it's never worked I suspect there must be a problem.

Hello @karenarnold and @chris2121.

I apologize for the delay in my response. Thanks for getting back to me.

At this moment we do not have any details of when will that phone be added to the list. @chris2121 thanks for sharing that link for the suggestion you posted! Be sure to read the FAQ if you have any questions on how that board works.

The phone not being on the list means that we can't guarantee that it will work.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Also just got an A7 and for the last 4 days have been trying to download the app thinking there was a fault. Now just read this link and so disappointed. I have been a fitbit user for over 3years and now suddenly I can't use the app where I store all of my information. Please fitbit, at it to your list - it has all the requirements, it makes no sense for it not to be on there and working 😟😫

Welcome to the Forums @Chlo26.

Congratulations on your new phone. I apologize for the delay in my response.

While the A7 is not a supported device, downloading the app should be possible from the Play Store. Are you getting some sort of error message when you try to download it? If so, what does it say?

Look forward to your reply.

Good morning from the Netherlands, if the A7 is not a supported device, what's the point in downloading the app?

Best Answer

Weirdly, I have just gone onto my app store and tried again to see what the error code or message was. It has now just downloaded!

the screen looks as normal so will cross my fingers that it works now - we will see, I haven't synced or done ant exercise tracking on there yet.

I am just confused as to why I tried for days with no success, but now all of a sudden it is working. I am also confused why it works, if it is not 'supported' as the other user just mentioned. Although I am not complaining as for a recent phone like this (even though its not the most modern model) with the same android system and processors, I see no reason why I shouldn't be able to use the fitbit app as I have done on all of my older phones

Sorry, but I simply can't stand this sentence anymore.

In fact, it's not listed.

But the A6 (2018) and the A8 (2018) are.

So if I do the homework for FitBit I will get this list:

  • A6 (2018) - listed
  • A7 (2018) - not listed
  • A8 (2018) - listed

When I research in technical details for all three phones I find the A8 and the A7 are sharing the important points:

  • useing the same SoC
  • have same bluetooth-version and -chip
  • have same Android version

So to keep it short: A7 and A8 are the same base, but differ in the size of the displays and have different camera modules. - So sad I have to do the job of your testers.

And by the way... the A7 (2018) works like a charm with FitBit app.

I did that weeks ago.  But it doesn't seem to make any difference.

I was going to buy a Galaxy A7 but after all the problems I'd had with another unsupported phone I decided against it.  I should probably write to Samsung and tell them that they lost a sale because of Fitbit?
