Charge 2 loosing time with Pixel 3 running Android 10

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

In addition to the notification issue(s) with text messages, I'm experiencing another - and for me, more troubling issue - my Charge 2 is not keeping reliable time. This seems to have started with Android 10.

If I manually sync with the phone, the time corrects (to what is on the phone, which is pretty reliable). If I don't force a manual sync, I can lose maybe 2 minutes over the course of 12 hours.

I assume this is another Android 10 incompatibility.

Anyone else experience this? Anyone have a suggestion or solution??

Steve

Hi @sr1sws, it's nice to see you again participating here in the Community Forums, welcome back!

I appreciate all the information and details that were shared in your post. Let me share with you that Fitbit devices use the mobile device timezone settings to display time with the syncing procedure, this is why the time gets corrected when you sync your Charge 2, however, seems odd that's loosing 2 minutes over 12 hours of use. To better assist you with this, can you please let me know when was the first time you experienced this and how many times since then? How many times during a day you usually sync your Fitbit?

If you haven't already done so, I recommend you to check how the syncing procedure works here and see if there's a missing requirement on your Google Pixel 3 mobile device that's preventing the syncing procedure to be completed. Also, you can move forward to the troubleshooting steps that are specified on: Why won't my Fitbit device sync? and let me know how it goes.

Regarding notifications, I recommend you to check: How do I get notifications from my phone on my Fitbit device? to see that all the necessary requirements to receive notifications on your Charge 2 are correctly configured. After verifying this, please try the troubleshooting steps that are specified on: My Fitbit device isn't receiving notifications from my phone and let me know how it goes.

Keep me posted and let me know if you have any additional questions.

Charge 2 worked fine with Pixel 3 beginning Dec 2018 up to roughly end of August. I experience the "no notifications from Google message" problem - which I more or less don't care about and the time keeping issue, which I do care about.  I attribute the start of issues with the installation of Android 10 on my Pixel 3.

I only occasionally manually sync my Fitbit with the app. Prior to the onset of issues, the Charge 2 and Pixel always seemed to be in sync. If I launched the Fitbit app, the number of steps matched what the Charge 2 displayed and I never experienced a lapse in timekeeping.

Since Android 10, I generally have to launch the app and force a manual sync to get steps updated. Time will correct at that time too. The loss of 2 minutes in 12 hours is an estimate. I do know it lost roughly a minute from about 7am today until about 3pm. At that time I did a manual sync and watched the time correct to what the phone was displaying.

I assume the timekeeping issue is due to a failure of the Fitbit app to reliably sync when running in the background. I would further suspect this is related to more aggressive battery saving methods in Android 10 - but I am not a developer.
