Charge 3 and Android stuck after 4 digit code

trying to set up a Charge 3 on a fresh Fitbit android app install.  App detects fitbit and fitbit shows 4 digit code.  After entering the code into the phone app, the App says Connecting and the circle spins forever.  The fitbit itself shows the fitbit graphic with shifting grayscales in the spots.

walk away and come back, the fitbit face is now blank and shows the clock when awoken.  the phone app still shows the 4 digit code screen with the message 'connecting' and the endlessly-spinning circle.

Accepted Solutions

Thanks to a post elsewhere in this website, I've found a solution that enabled the app to successfully connect to my S7 after this firmware update nearly bricked it:

Paraphrasing Svensin:

1. Unlink Charge 3

2. Uninstall and Wipe the APP from your phone, (I did a "device maintenance" including memory cleanup to scrub anything hidden), and restart the phone

3. Wipe user data on the Charge 3 and reset device (swipe 3 times to left, Settings, about, reset) I Did this again AFTER app was uninstalled just to make sure nothing was lingering

4. Reinstalled APP, log in, and add new device

5. With the device attached to the charger, go through the set up.

This time around, it worked.  I had tried the 8 sec reset before, but I hadn't tried wiping user data from the Charge 3.  I also tried reinstalling the APP before, but hadn't tried the device maintenance tool to remove latent fitbit files.  I don't know whether one or the other step was the key, but I'm happy that the fitbit is now syncing.

Now, I just have to figure out how to keep it from decimating my phone battery, like it did when I first started using it...

Hello @NewUser321.

Thanks for bringing this us and sharing those details.

In this case I'd recommend that we try to follow these steps:

  1. Go into the phone's Bluetooth settings.
  2. Once you are there, look for all Fitbit devices and remove them from the paired devices list.
  3. Restart your phone.
  4. Run the set up process once again.

In the meantime, please let me know what phone is it that you are using to try and pair your Charge 3.

Look forward to your reply.

I've already attempted the steps you describe, no luck. Samsung s7.

I've tried yet again, following your instructions.  Failed again, hanging endlessly after the 4 digit code.  It's crazy - the phone can see the Charge 3 on Bluetooth, can get it to display the code, but then the app fails to progress.

App is version 2.84.
