I recently switched to a charge 5 from an HR2. I've never had any issues like this before, but once I switched to the charge 5 the heart rate sensors would not work for about a month. After doing a lot of troubleshooting, the only thing I believe it to be is that my tattoo is creating interference with this light sensor. I find this frustrating, because my HR2 with older technology had no issues at all. I even got the tattoo halfway through the lifespan of my old device and never had any issues. Now, with the charge 5 I'm not getting any readings. After also going through the trouble shooting tips with customer service, repetitively, they are telling me my only option is to return it or switch wrists. Am I wrong for thinking that is an answer that seems to say sorry, we tried, go away now? I even had one customer service representative explain to me that the charge five technology should be better and therefore work better, but this seems to be the opposite. Has anyone had this issue and can anyone help me?

I'd at least try the other wrist, if there are no tattoos, to confirm if that is the actual issue. I would certainly expect the C5 to do as well as the HR2, but I'm guessing that fitbit is buying the sensors from another company. Unfortunately, tattoos or "non-white" skin are known issues for many optical HR devices. Good luck.
